I have an ATI AIW 9800 Pro card and have my hdtv setup as the secondary monitor using s-video. I do not like the quality. It is only about 70% as good as my LCD monitor hooked up by RGB. I also have a 9600XT in another machine and hooked that up to my tv via DVI. The quality is much better and clearer, however i am having problems getting a decent resolution. I have tried using powerstrip and that does allow me to get closer to a decnt rez. But I thought I would be able to get fullscreen resolution with decent picture using DVI?

Does anybody out there use either the X800 or Nvidia 6800 hooked up to a hdtv via DVI? If so, what should I expect for PQ and Installation problems? Which card is better for this purpose. I do not play games on this machine, just as a media center using Sage...

why are you using svideo again ? and you should really make the screen showing video/3d applications be primary

svideo is a poor representative of the actual image produced from the computer
image down scaling and interlacing I doubt would ever make any image look nice

what resolution are you using with the 9600XT?

I am at work right now, so i can not check exactly but it is something like 1770x1000. This is the closest rez I can get to fill the screen. However when I fill the screen it seems like the refresh rate is not enough. It goes down to 30. I thought I would be able to get full screen with 60Khz refresh rate.

Is this because of the video card, the TV or both.

S-video is only 480i so you are stuck at that refresh rate. You'd have to use either component, DVI, or RGB if you want to run other rates.

I know that all I can get is 30 with S-video(Currently AIW 9800 Pro). That is why i want to know which card would be better to buy(X800 or NVidia6800). So I can hook it up via DVI. However as you see in my previous post. I am having problem hooking my 9600XT up to my HDTV via DVI and getting full screen resolution with 60KHZ refresh rate.

1770x1000

interlaced or progressive
progressive should be 59.94 and interlaced 29.97 Hz

not sure the problem with the 9600XT but if you mean 1770x1000p
then you need a video card with 256 MB
let me just say that
and here's something you might be interested in

it is good deal to me

personally thats the way to go
or the 6800GT if you do not want to do this

Hmmm. How would I select progressive or interlaced?

well svideo is interlaced only
but in the video card drivers
you need to go into the advanced timings
and you can select 480p, 720p, or 1080i and some pal stuff
