Okay, now I'm real close. I've hooked up the correct IR transmitter, SageTV recognizes it. It has the timing for my cable box correct. It correctly transmits the three-digit channel numbers. But, darn, there's one more button that needs to be pressed to actually change the channel, one on the remote labelled either OK or Enter. The box is a Motorola 2244. Without that confirmation keypress, the channel doesn't actually change.
How do I make SageTV complete the 3-digit, 4-key sequence?

I believe that the IR setup will let you learn the "Enter" key, or whatever it's called on your remote. I don't have this situation with my Dish receivers, but I know that there are several people around here that do.

It asks for the numbers 0-9 only, unless I just missed something when taught it new timings.

Okay, I figured it out. There's a utility in SageRecorder that will build a custom IR datafile. That's where a channel confirmation keypress can be added. There isn't an intuitive way to do this within SageTV, yet.
