View Full Version : Napster integration
Droid

I have Windows MCE in my office and I like that fact that I could subscribe to a music service like Napster and have any song at my finger tips. Anyway to do this level of integration in Sage?
Thanks

A Napster interface would be very cool.

a napster interface without the ripoff cost per song would be very cool.
i like allofmp3.com myself. quite reasonably priced to keep lawyers from banging on my door.

I like the pay for all you can eat option. $10.00 / month to have a virtually endless list of on demand music is worth it to me...

10 bucks per but that's for 128kbps mp3 right? (music that you can't even keep)
for about 5 cents per song i can do whatever i want with music from allofmp3.com and the riaa can't do jack about it.
now THAT is a good deal! :D
ps. they have a new web interface now for allofmp3.com lets integrate that :thumb:

I use allofmp3.com too. If you download their explorer and set the thread-per-download setting to around 10 or 15 you can usually get downloads up to 180k (in case you didn't already know). It's great. I've spent about $75 (= approx. 7.5GB of music) not bad at all. :thumb:

it sure is nice!
between my dad and i we've accumulated about 40 gigs worth ~10,000 songs or so.

So exactly how does this work?
You pay for the total data you download? So if you want lossless FLAC format you will pay more for the song than a 28k MP3, correct?
Pretty neat idea, I just showed this to my wife, we will have to start buying some music. Are there any usuage restrictions?
thanks,

I took a brief look through allofmp3.com but didn't see any pricing information. I'm sure it's there but I didn't spend that much time. If you guys wouldn't mind:
If you wanted to burn to CD what is the best lossless compression they support (I'll use any format, doesn't matter to me)?
What is the cost/pricing format?

Great concept, but I would feel more secure leaving my credit card on the sidewalk then giving it to a Russian Internet company...

The cost was $0.01 per meg from already encoded MP3 files or $0.02 per meg for whatever encoding you want, including lossless.
Wish they took PayPal.

they used to take paypal and the company they now use to process credit card payments is the same one as sony uses for their online store.
get over the anxiety and enjoy the savings!!!
there's actually a lot of good writups on the net and where allofmp3 stands with the riaa and needless to say the riaa can't do anything about it right now.
ps. they've been in business since 2001.
pps. read this http://www.museekster.com/allofmp3info.htm

GbrNole,
Thanks for pointing allofmp3 out again. I had looked there before and at the time they didn't support anything lossless. But now I see they support flac. I may just have to take another look (and use one of Discover's "Deskshop" numbers to do it:D).
-edit
Or maybe not, they don't take Discover, oh well, I've got Visa to :smokin:
Lossless or bust! Don't surrender to the loss :D

I guess the only issue with lossless that I have is that I can't tell the difference between a 192kbps and lossless. Maybe I need to get my ears cleaned? :)

digital coorection we can use in pc's will allow a 192kbps mp3 to sound very very good. the biggest advantage you get from lossless is that when you want to switch it back to redbook .wav for cd usage you have preserved all the detail which you can't achieve when you unpack an mp3.
personally i still use 192kbps mp3 myself although now that i see stanger's post i'm assuming flac works under sage? if so i may have to take another look ant my download and rip formats :D

it's not napster deep but they have well over 300,000 tracks available for either individual or full album download with many new releases being added every week so it will pretty well fulfill your needs :D

how do I add my music into Sage. I see video directories but no Audio/music directories in the detailed setup?
GbrNole

actually in sage all library content (both video and music folders) get added in the same place.
you can have multiple folders listed.
for example
my music is c:\mp3 files
my xvids are d:\xvid
my sage recordings are d:\sage
using mlbdude's sageMC stv shows all music under the my music tab and all my xvids under the my videos tab.
the only downside is that sage can't play back wma's so those wont be recognized.

Also, any suggestions on music managing software? I saw something like Media Monkey, but I would like something to track archiving the music on CD also.

J River Media Center. :thumb:

as stanger said jriver media center for the most in depth management software or for a more simple alternative use MMJB but you will need the pro version to tag tracks with album art.

Good thread. Got me looking into streaming radio possibilities. Haven't run across much good for free. I saw some good reviews for MSN Music and signed up for the free trial. $30 for a year but great sound and lots of commercial and ad-free channels to choose from. and I can use my remote with the player to pause the channel or advance to the next songs. I'm playing with ways to launch it to my favorite channels and then return me back to sage. Maybe for the songs I hear and need for my collection I will look at getting from allofmp3.com.
