xmltv not working at all. Help please!

OK, I've installed sagetv to use with a hauppauge pvr350 and got compostire and tuner (sky box and vcr) working.
I've installed xerces.jar in my sagetv directory, put the xmltv plugin folder in the sagetv directory and also copied the contents of the xmltv archive from sourceforge in the same place.
I've run xmltv and it seems to work - epgdata.xml contains loads of references to UK stations and programs, but when I follow the instructions to select zip code 00000 and US dish, all I get (after quite a wait) is a load of american stations.
Anybody got any ideas?

I'm a fellow newbie so I'm almost certainly wrong, but I was fooled by this when I was trying to do this earlier today, so it might be worth a try: although you may have quit SageTV properly before you edited sage.Properties to tell it about the XMLTV plug-in, you may have forgotten to stop the SageTV service (in Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services), which seems to be a vital step.

Stop the service, check that sage.Properties includes the correct reference to xmltv.XMLTVImportPlugin and then start SageTV again.

I think the problem was not tellingsagetv about the tuner properly - it now imports the contents of the xml file.
Incidentally - I haven't got sagetvservice running at the moment, which may or may not be relevant.
