Normally SageTV records "StarGate SG1" on channel 6(UPN) at 9PM on Sat. However there is an occurence of the same episode of "Stargate" on channel 5(Fox) at 4PM. In 1.3.8 it recorded the later(as desired) 9pm on 6 showing most of the time. I believe when I selected "StarGate" as a fovorite it was on channel 6 at 9PM. I did this since channel 5(fox) oftens runs MLB on saturdays, and it always seems to go over it's time slot.

I remember reading a post about SageTV not recording the first instance of a show. I think Narflex said it was because of some optimizations and he felt he could remove them from the next release. Did this change occur? Is this why SageTV now seems to record the earlier 4PM showing, or is this just a coincidence?

Is there a way to set a prefered channel/time for a specific favorite that has multiple showings? This would have other uses as well since I several NBC stations, but only 1 has a really clean signal. The same with PBS.

General Info: (WinXP sp1 DX9)
I just upgraded Sat morning I did uninstall and then install the beta. I did however recopy my old properties and Wiz files back over the new ones.

I believe Jeff did change a few things which would affect Favorite scheduling. See the below post for details...

It might be nice if he could include this as a true/false value in the properties file so the user could decide how to have it managed. However, it sounds like it would fix your problem only by coincidence. Looks like the real solution is linking a favorite to a single channel request.

Yeah, that was the post I was thinking of. Thanx.:)

I found a setting in my properties file that seems new, it's called "scheduler/disable_phase1_optimization=". I wonder if this relates to the change Jeff made?

Looks like the real solution is linking a favorite to a single channel request.
I actually like the fact that Sage doesn't have an absolute link to any one channel. I have a Tivo and I have to have 3 season passes for one of my shows. Since it is on 3 different channels with different episodes at different times.

However a channel preference(use this channel if at all possible to record this episode) for any favorite would be great addon. Even if it does mean that a show may be recorded a few hours or even days later. I'm concerned in making sure I get all the episodes of my shows, not neccessarily getting them sooner.

I'm sure Jeff has already thought of this situation and already is working on a solution. Or he has it on his list to do it when he can.

Much thanks for the info.:)

That property you mention (if set to false) will revert the Scheduler back to its old behavior where it might not always record the first airing of a favorite.

Thanks Narflex,
I was fairly sure that's what that setting was for. Thanks for letting me know which setting reverts Sage to it's old behavior.

Does SageTV take the initial channel of a favorite into account when it does it's calculations? What I mean is, if I select "Stargate SG1" on channel 5 as a favorite. Does SageTV then have a preference for that channel as part of it's Intelligent Recording, or is the Favorite totally channel independant?

Thanks for another great release.:)

Favorites are currently channel independent.
