Proper procedure for upgrading from 2.x to 4?

Hello,

looking forward to installing/using the newest version (4.0).

I am currently running 2.2.7 and am wondering what the right/best way to do the upgrade is.

I will make a complete backup of the Sage directory, but then do I install over the top of 2.x or alongside, or uninstall first?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Tom S.

Same way as every other Sage upgrade

Backup your old directory (just in case) install over top.

Different directories?

2.2.7 was my only install, so I haven't done any upgrades yet. I read in the beta forums the (default?) install directory has changed from c:\program files\frey technologies\... to c:\program files\sagetv

Will this affect the upgrade at all, or do I just specify the old directory and off I go?

Thanks,

Tom

It should automatically see where the current version is installed, if you install over the top of the old version w/o removing it first. But, just check during installation & set the directory if needed.

One more...

Sorry to keep asking questions, but is this the preferred method (installing over top), or is it better to uninstall 2.x or install 4.0 alongside 2.x?

Thanks

Tom

It shouldn't really matter whether you uninstall first, but if you keep your existing data files, the new version will still have all your old recordings, viewing history, favorites, etc. That is the biggest reason not to install to a completely new directory.

Edit: I never uninstall either.
