Switched to ATI now 1080i is jumpy

I made the move from my one card Nvidia sage test machine to a multiple tuner machine with an ATI card. I noticed last night when I enabled DXVA that the picture became quite jumpy on 1080i (NBC). I think it is just 1080i because the HDPVR (cable box locked at 720p) looked good. Other stations running 720p did not have the issue either. I turned DXVA off and it returned to being watchable. I admit I haven't updated the drivers in a while but that is because it seems that sometimes the latest and greatest are a little buggy.

Anyone out there have ATI card (4XXX series), winXP and 1080i not jerky?

Won't I need DXVA for bluray?
On that note, the movie Ninja playing through the bluray drive crashes sage when you attempt to reload the title and Monsters Inc. is just a random flickering mess until I reload it several times. So far I am blaming the ATI card and or it's drivers.

Recommended drivers? Buy a Nvidia card? Not a fanboy of either so I will buy what works. My test machine was Nvidia and it worked fine. Only had one expansion slot though......maybe turn it into a client.

9.8 is what I see as the recommended ATI drivers.

What card is this exactly? If you only see problems with 1080i, then it's likely related to deinterlacing. It probably tries to use VA (vector adaptive deinterlacing), but the hardware is not capable for that. Try using simpler deinterlacing options in CCC and check whether that makes a difference.

Yea. I have an HD300 but the my mother-in-laws testing has gone a little long. LOL. My server is next to a 50 inch so I am trying to avoid buying something else. Plus there are some limitations with it right? Hulu can't be played on them without playon, correct? Plus every now and again I jump on the Internet. The text display on the home screen didn't seem to be as crisp either. Also, had an issue where I had to turn ON flow control on the server. So while they are nice there are some limitations and still had to tweak a little.

I have that card working on a HDHR and HD-PVR setup without problems.

Running Win7-32 bit on the HTPCs. (Didn't see you OS in the post)

Vista also worked well but XP was always a challenge. I had XP working fine as well before the upgrade to Vista\Win7 but it was picky. (Overlay on XP was key)

It is xp. I'm not in front of the computer right now. Is overlay a specific setting or just the result of turning dxva off? Sorry new to sage....I don't have all the menus memorized just yet and am running a very vanilla setup so there maybe options/menus that i haven't touched yet.
