Happy Anniversary Everyone

Well, here we are. One year in. Frankly a year ago I thought I would know a lot more about the future of Sage and its progeny right now than I actually do but I am still hopeful for a Sage-esque solution (from someone, anyone) in the near future. Congrats to everyone who is still hanging around. Hopefully the second year anniversary will bring with it some new innovations on the HTPC front.

On a brighter note, all kinds of other GOOD things have happened for me in the "real world" in the past year, so overall I can't complain. See you next year!

With apologies to Don McLean:

Quote:
A long long time ago
I can still remember how
That software used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people glance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But June 18 made me sweat
When I read the forums with regret
Bad news on the front page
Was this really the end Sage

I can't remember if I cried
When I read the contents of his slide
But something touched me deep inside
**The day the SageTV died**
Maybe someone else can come up with the chorus?

In all seriousness, I wonder how long the lockups and non-competes are on Jeff, et al? Probably more than one year but if another year goes by and still nothing comes of the Google purchase of Sage then I wonder if he/they will still be with GOOG? Or maybe they will be free to leave and start Frey Technologies 2.0?

Or maybe they just moved on, or will stay to collect a real nice paycheck and write there own personal DVR ...

So far what GOOG is doing is not looking good for us, I think.

Normally non-competes and confidentiality agreements entered into in connection with the sale of a company work 2 ways. First you are locked up for anywhere from 2 to 5 years from the closing of the sale (usually a longer period if you got crazy money - I'm sure Jeff did fine but I doubt it was seriously crazy money).

Then, if you are an employee, you are subject to a confidentiality agreement (and of course you can't compete with your employer) the whole time you are employed - could be years and years - and for a year or so after your employment terminates.

The only way scenario one matters is if you quit the company early on. In that case the first non compete will last longer. If you stay on for a couple or three years, then the second one is the more relevant one.

Bottom line. Don't expect Jeff to star talking against Google's wishes anytime soon!

Sigh. It has been a long, dark year. I should have pulled the trigger on that HD300. Then again, my setup isn't working now and won't work without further support from Sage, which apparently is not coming.

Jeff, I hope it was worth it considering all the sorrow you have caused! Of course it was worth it for him, I'm being silly.

Well as the GooglePlus'ers know, i'm not so secretly hoping GoogSage won't announce a darn thing for at least another 4 months. I'm hitting unheard of levels of offline productivity :-)

I've had tons of stuff hit my gmail about g+ circles. Guess I need to finally dig into that.

BTW, that link is dead.

If Clayton Morris has a GOOD source, this gets interesting...

According to my sources, one of the demonstrations will combine live TV listings with Netflix and DVR content. This will be the first time all of these services will be in one place.
This SOOOOOO smells like SageTV gets proper online services integration!!!

Here is to hope!!!!

actually, that link only works for people in my HTPC circle. (Its not a "public" post). Once you get a G+ profile, i'll add you to the G+ circle.

this is the post:

My fears are coming true, learning how to DIY home repairs while doing a mini home remodel has spawned scope creep of epic proportions. What started off as adding a closet and moving back door has resulted in replacing driveway gate, adding a 2nd gate, redoing other kids closet, putting shelves everywhere, repainting exterior, new electrical wiring, carpeting, tiles, and more. Have I mentioned that I'm doing everything but the electrical since I work cheap?

Not that I'm giving up any soccer, I still have my 5 games per week. I guess I know what I'm doing every night or weekend when there's no kid or family stuff going on.
Fair warning, 90% of what I post has nothing to do with HTPC's or Sage, since 90% of my life is about other stuff. Although given my imminent server rebuild (on hold until I see if there's any interesting GTV announcements this week), that ratio may change a little.

A bidding war would really drive up the price. Rather see inventory show up via other outlets.

Been over a year

It's been over a year since the news that Google bought SageTV. Are there any updates? Will the new GoogleTV be compatible with SageTV as an extender? Will client licenses or extenders ever be sold again?

I've been using SageTV for 7 or 8 years now and I really don't want to move on, since I've never seen anything that is truly competitive in my opinion.

I'd love an update from Narflex or someone with Sage/Google.

Thanks,
Brian

I thought there was a solution for the EPG using schedules direct when the included EPG quits working.
