Getting DScaler Working...
Is there something I need to do to get DScaler working?
I'm using the Hauppauge PVR-250 card with an ATI Sapphire 9200 video card right now. Everything works and plays fine. However with fast motion I've noticed slight bluring and would like to minimize it or totally get rid of it if I could. It's very noticable if I pause the video while the motion is happening, it looks kinda like it paused between frames. I was thinking DScaler might help with this problem. When I go into detailed settings and try to change it I get no options. If I click the okay button no menu pops up for all the DScaler choices. Help meh!! I'm a DScaler n00b... |

You need to be using the Elecard decoder to use it.

You could also try using ffdshow. You'll have to disable deinterlacing of the decoder you are using, as well as set Sage to use "Default Video Renderer." In ffdshow you'll have to enable Raw Video - all formats in the codecs section.
The other thing is that the temporal noise reduction on the 250 could be set too high. Go to http://www.shspvr.com there's a utility called hcwpp2ut in the tools section that lets you adjust it.

mlbdude,
I told ya I was a n00b at DScaler. Thanks for setting me straight. ![]() stanger89, I've never tried ffdshow before. I'll give that a go after trying the hcwpp2ut utility. Thanks for the info! I've never changed the temporal noise reduction of the card, are there any tips you could give me?

I haven't played with it a lot, but I know if it's too high everything will leave trails.

actually hauppauge has set it pretty good
if you trun it down there is alot of noise in the picture very grainy if you turn it up you definitely get trails there is one setting that is worth looking at though the static or dynamic setting also you can change all this in the registry but it is not in realtime look here but http://www.freytechnologies.com/HPquality.txt oh damn nevermind that link does work anymore I hope Sage will remap this link it had almost all the setting and what they did and how to customize them WOW that sucks does anyone out there have a copy of this page they can email me |

It does look funny with the smilies in there.
![]() I've got two more questions.. 1. Does changing the temporal noise reduction have to do with improving the recording or the playback? 2. If it is just playback, would it be better for me to test out a couple different codecs before messing with these settings?

The temporal noise reduction happens before the video hits the encoder, so it affects the recording (and therefore playback).

Thanks again for the info. After reading over some of the threads at shspvr.com I've decided to try going the route of ffdshow before changing my PVR settings. Having never messed with ffdshow either, wish me luck.
