MKV Playback with Subtitles
I am using the HD-200 in stand-alone mode and have installed the latest beta firmware, 20090429 0. The HD-200 is networked and accesses the shares on my computer hard drive perfectly for playback of music and videos.
I am converting my dvds to MKV files containing H.264 video and AC3 audio to save space, allowing for more movies to be stored on my hard drives. These MKVs play excellently through the HD-200 to my HDTV, except for the subtitles. I re-encode my dvds using HandBrake to produce the initial MKV file. I rip the subtitles from the appropriate DVD VOB set using VSRip and remux the initial MKV with the resulting .idx file using MKVmerge. Everything goes without error and the final MKV plays perfectly, subtitles and all, on my computer using Media Player Classic. I then copy the MKV to the movie folder that is accessed by the HD-200 and when I play the MKV, it plays just fine. However, when I press the Options button and select Subtitles, the video freezes while the audio continues on. I have tried both uncompressed and zlib-compressed subtitles with the same freezing result. By the way, if I copy the DVD to the shared folder and play it through the HD-200, the subtitles are displayed and the movie plays perfectly.
I have arrived at a re-encoding system that produces and MKV from the original DVD that shows no detectable quality differences on my 52" HDTV. So, I was extremely interested in the HD-200 because of its MKV playback capabilities, but subtitles are a must for some of my DVDs. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance.
