I actually gave up on the PVR as I continued to struggle with comskip and playback issues. I'm now considering dropping DirecTV altogether and going with antenna and Netfix only (much cheaper for how little I ended up recording from DirecTV)

You are correct though - DTV through an HVR-160 is SD only.
