Win 7 services to kill?
After upgrading my server and using Win7 instead of XP I had some major stuttering and sound problems. I disabled or uninstalled (not just turned off) Windows firewall, Defender, and MS Security essentials. MSSE was the worst culprit of those.
Since then I usually get smooth TV but periodically the stutters come back for a couple of minutes. I've gone through some of the Win7 tuneup sites and turned off more services (most of which would seem to be unrelated) but I'm still getting the stutters. What other services have people found interfere with SageTV Server to client? |

The only things I turned of was UAC, firewall and since I have XP clients I turned of SMB2 and SMB3.

You should be able to run sagetv 7 on win7 "out of the box" with minimal or no tweeks. The only service I routinely disable on win7 is the WMP sharing service but only because it tends to not let the system sleep. Most services consume very litle RAM and no CPU if they are idle. You need to look elsewhere for your problem.
Edit: MS Security Essentials does not come with win7 so I don't know what you actually removed...but I have used it for ~1.5 years on my SageTV setup without issue. Last edited by texneus; 04-11-2012 at 01:11 PM. |

I'd venture to guess you need to install your video card driver.

I did install and updated again just two days ago. Haven't seen any problems since but I do sometimes go a couple of days without issue.

What NIC are you using?
