WHS + Sage client = no dvd file playback.
I just set-up a small computer [I3 running W7] to replace an HD200. The server is running WHS. My problem is that dvd file playback is not possible, I get an error message. I think it has to do with the file location. On the homeserver the location may be something like D:local host. My guess is that sage client is looking for a D drive on it's own hard drive. The client has no problem finding the recorded tv files on the server. I sure thier is a simple solultion to this.
Thanks for any help. DRB

You may have to use unc (\\server\drive) to get it to recognize the DVD drive. As far as iso's or DVD folders you will have to set up a virtual DVD drive with something like virtual clone drive (vcd).
Good luck |

The Server and Client need to reference the "shared" drive the same way, i.e. If the server is using "R:\ drive" then the client needs to use "R:\ drive" as well.
Even though the SageTV server knows where the files are, the client needs a drive mapped to the files location AND the drive reference needs to be the same for both Server & Client. (something like S:\DVDS, Sage Server should have a location set under Media Directories pointing to S:\DVDS (this location can be on the Sage Server or NAS location) The client then needs to map an "S" drive (S:\) to the share that contains the files). I typically only map to the root of a drive/partition to keep things simple. I suspect if you look around this forum you can find additional info on this issue that explains better than I have. |

Just to verify, you are using SageTVClient, not SageTVPlaceshifter, right?

On my homeserver I use a subdirectory under my default-shared Videos folder, and DVDs ripped to folders. I include/create a VIDEO_TS folder under the movie folder to put the .VOB files in.
I have never had luck using the Browse Network feature to add the path on my Sage Client, so I type it manually. Originally I created a path directly to the DVD folder in v.6 for menus in SageMC, but now using Phoenix, I simply use one path to point to the Video folder on the server, and custom menuitems to get me directly to the lower folders. In Sage Client, set the path to either: \\HOMESERVER\Videos\DVDs (direct) or \\HOMESERVER\Videos (to the root of all Videos in my case) |

The same issue can occur if your client does not have access to the Sage service on your WHS. I run two WHS boxes, one for TV, one for Media storage, but same applies for one.
I had to change the service from Local Account to an Administrator account on my WHS box, and provide the password to allow access for my clients. |

This is the sage error I get; " There was a captre error in playback. Details:Error (-3,0X80070200) There was a problem accessing the filesystem for capture"
In Sage set-up this is what the import directory is; D:\shares\Movies Here is a screen capture of the network location. I tried to manaual name the location but haven't had any sucess yet. Thanks DRB

I thought the password is provided from HP media connector. I can view the homeserver from the client. Thanks DRB

The client requires the same path as the server. In your case this would be D:\Shares\Movies. The client needs a drive "D" mapped to the server share. This is most likely going to be a problem for you, because physical media may already be using the D:\ by default (2nd partition/hard drive or the CD\DVD) on the client machine. I have always used mapped drives, it may be possible to use a UNC path as well. Again the Server and Client require the same exact file path. |

Everything in WHS should be accessed by the UNC ptah. That's is by design. Change all your mappings to UNC (\\Servername\the sharedfolder ) On the Sage server and the sage client. Make sure the user on the client has those permissions on WHS.

Make sure the user that is running Sage on the client is setup as a user in WHS with rights to read (and possibly write) to the DVD folders. |
