migrating from HDD to SSD - best way to bring Sage over?
I have two tuners, one that uses Tim Moore's firewire channel changer.
Also, a few plug-ins etc. I know about bringing wiz.bin over from my old installation, but is there a way to bring all the other stuff over as well, including alterations to the Sage.properties etc? Or, do I have to re-install everything from scratch? As it stands, I have re-installed the Colossus and HD-PVR tuners using their latest drivers (as opposed to what was installed on my outgoing drive). Will that be a problem for wiz.bin / properties? and...since I haven't been able to find the 'favorite' url I though I had kept for installing firewire channel changing drivers, if someone can recommend that link I'd be grateful.

What I did was to backup the SageTV install to another drive, CD or whatever, install Windows on the new (SSD) drive and all other software and hardware drivers. Installed Sage, once everything was somewhat stable and worked I copied the working SageTV directory over the new install. I did do a channel scan on the QAM tuners "just to make sure".

I did this when I went from XP to W7. As jbrandon did, I installed new and then copied my old SageTV folder over the top of it. This broke nearly everything. However, I didn't need to worry about tuners, since they're on my server. I did need to edit the properties file manually, line by line, to ensure everything was pointing to the right directories. It can definitely be done, though. Keep an eye on the log files, too, as they'll tell you where there are still problems, if they aren't staring you in the face already.

are any of you using Firewire channel changing? That's where I am stuck: I can't for the life of me remember where or how I got the instructions to install the drivers - and after searching and finding some links here, I don't remember it being nearly as complicated as the links I am reading.
So, if someone knows of the link to the simple directions, thanks.

Try this one,
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...postcount=1894 I gave up on firewire channel changing when I went to Win7 64bit for my media server and went with multizone USB-UIRTS. They have been as accurate as firewire was for me. A bit of money to invest in the USB-UIRTs though. Once you get the drivers installed I think most of the work is identifying the boxes using the "channelw.exe -v" to make sure each tuner was tuning the right box and then setting up the ir files. what do you think is easier to implement (so far, all the directions I have been reading seem quite difficult and involved):
FWChannelProxy, or ExeMultiTuner? All I want to is change channels, NOT record video via Firewire

One thing that seems to be confusing me: to use FWChannelProxy, do the exemultituner files need to be installed, or are these two systems completely seperate. sorry, I don't understand much that has backslashes and asterisks, but I am trying to decipher it all
UPDATE: thanks for the help - got FWChannelProxy working, and it was far simpler than the instructions I was reading, which is what I remember.

Just an update to my original response. I recently installed an SSD in my client PC and followed these instructions. It worked perfectly, except they missed the step where you edit the registry right before rebooting to enable AHCI in the BIOS. No reinstalling Windows, no reinstalling drivers or SageTV. Everything works just as it did with the HDD.
Scroll down to the very last comment on the first link and someone suggested an even easier solution simply using Windows 7's built-in backup and restore, but I didn't read that until after I had finished.
