New GoogleTV API Developments, DRM Support, PlayReady, etc.

Looks like some serious possibilities for bringing in channels and content directly into GoogleTV's native apps / interface / etc.

Interesting. Looks like the pieces will soon be there where one could write a Device Controller service and GoogleTV interface apk on the Android side and a service on the Windows side that talks to SageTV to get a lot of Sage content into GoogleTV if one wants. Maybe this is what Jeff & Co. are waiting for (or working on).

Hmm, it may be time to pick up a new generation Sony or Vizio GoogleTV box and experiment once this next code base ships. They were a bit vague on when this new API will be released.

This is what I was thinking.. The Vizio box http://www.vizio.com/costar/features at $99 is the RIGHT pricing..

I know at the start they mention (ever so slightly) about these features being for the new ARM processor GoogleTV boxes. I doubt the original Sony and Logitech Revue will ever get these features, etc..

Vizio has said MID-July for release, I bet this API is ready to roll at that time..

more waiting and seeing I guess

Shane

P.S. Server side SageTV w/ full client support for GoogleTV boxes - would be my dream.. Cheap $99 extenders, full power of SageTV (with hopefully cablecard/hdhomerun support) - SURE hope they are still working on a server side app too!

True, but one thing I like about the Sony NSZ-GS7 is it has overscan adjustment. Note sure whether Vizio will offer this or not.

(and BTW this was something the HD300 is sorely lacking)

that's for the user interface graphic overlay, not the video component.

You can do some adjustment by editing aspect ratios, but I've never been able to get it to correctly control the width of the image and have a fair amount of spillage off the screen on my old Mitsu HDTV.
