Sagetv Client Startup
I have a sagetv client that runs on my windows 7 desktop machine. Its not used very often , but recently will not start. It hangs in the user initializing stage and just hangs. I have to kill it for it to go away. I probably havent started in sometime so really cant think of what has changed in the environment. Would appreciate some ideas on how to troubleshoot. Startup logs on the server, the client ? Any ideas?
appreciate any assistance dave

I have not installed a new version of the client. Pretty sure it is the most recent one however. Server is the most recent V7 version from, what a year ago now or more. I'm sure the client was the most recent version from that same period. This has been working since the dreaded , sold to goggle , announcement.

If i were you i would start by making sure my server was up to date with the most recent release, and then make sure the client is up to date with the most recent release.... start there and report back..

I don't know if this is the cause of your problem but I had this happen to me once before. I had set the Sage client to remember the IP address of the Sage server. Everything worked fine until one day, for some unknown reason, my router assigned the Sage server a different IP address. After this, the Sage client would hang whenever I started it and it tried to connect to the Sage server at the original embedded IP address. I manually edited the client config file to remove the embedded address and the problem went away. I no longer embed the Sage server IP address in the client config file and just select the server from the popup dialog when I load the client.

Thanks i also just select the server from the pop menu. Server IP is hardcoded as well. As to the previous post i will confirm the software levels but i am sure they are current. I will also wireshark the connection.

If java was set to allow itself to autoupdate it could have messed it up if Sage wasn't completely shut down. You'll have to do a system restore or make sure Sage is shutdown and uninstall java and then install java clean.
