Synology NAS Now Records TV

Anybody has seen or tested this?

Synology adds TV recording and more to its NAS with DSM 4.1 operating system

Synology Network Attached Storage - Complete Multimedia Platform - DSM 4.1

What do you guys think? I don't think it is as complete as SageTV but it seems to be going in the right direction.

They are also rolling out support for IOS devices to stream shows and stuff from the Nas and supposedly have plans of supporting streaming to android devices when the 4.2 update is released.

I thought the Atom CPUs they uae weren't powerful enough to transcode HD in realtime. Is this no longer the case?

Cant believe i missed that. I installed 4.1 yesterday. Luckily i have one of the recommended usb tuners so going to have a play. It does look very basic compared to sage though.

I'm wondering where it gets its guide data from? Through the tuner?

I guess I just don't get the point of it, I mean who want to watch TV through a browser? Also they state any USB tunner, What does that mean? An HDPVR or a Ceton infinity 4? Big difference there don't you think.

Not to mention now your storage device is now recording and streaming live TV? Really? That is the last thing I want my network storage device to be doing.
