what bitrate did you capture this at.also i have been testing bitrates ,i captured xmen 3 in 11mbps and it looks great but the file is 8.5 gbs.i wonder if there is much difference in quality at 8 or 9mbps instead of 11 for a smaller file.

How do I know which drivers I am using? It seems like both the included ones and the SHS ones have the same number 1.03.46. Or maybe I've uninstalled/reinstalled so may times I've lost track.

i still have mine at default of 8 average and peak of like 12... variable.. i wanna say 5 + is good for HD honestly

I installed mine yesterday, everything seemed good as far as the install.. I loaded their capture software that arcconnect media extreme or whatever it was called.

That software can pull up both my HDHomeRun and the HDPVR as sources. When I pull up the HDHomeRun I see data no problem however when I pick the HDPVR I get nothing in the preview window.

If I try and record/capture it says capture failed when I stop the capture.

Is that a symptom of an overheating unit?

Make sure you don't have Sage up and running when you try that.

I had sage closed, the first time I had sage open it gave an error that the driver was busy.. I assume that is expected?

sounds like the overheat freeze issue i had before i rma'd and got a new great working unit ... welcome to the club

I'm guessing that you guys have custom recording rates set up to get those high bitrates? The best one I see in my recording quality options in SageTv is "Best H.264 5.9GB/Hr"

"Best H.264 5.9GB/Hr" is pretty close to the highest available. Using the max available recording bitrate the HD-PVR supports (13.5 Mbps) results in 6.9 GB/Hr - see this thread for more info :

Yes, my bad. I saw the 13.5Mbps and my addled old brain interpreted that as 13.5GB/hr. Doooh!!

I have been recording HD like crazy with my new HD-PVR. But while waiting for my HD-100 to arrive, I had no way to watch any of it. (Euro 2008, Lakers-Celtics etc).

Using ArcSoft to view the files on my single-core Pentium 4 2.4 machine was enticing, very pretty pictures, but a fair bit of stuttering and the CPU was pegged at 100% throughout.

I had heard some hopeful noises about the Sapphire 2600XT AGP 512mb card, so I ran out and got one, replacing an X800GTO.

After installing the included driver, still no joy. HD playback still stuttering and CPU pegged. My next step was to download the 8.5 HOTFIX set of drivers from Sapphire's site.

AHHHHHH. HD playback is silky smooth, CPU is down to 15-20%.

Switch displays to my 42" plasma. WOW. The quality of the 720p capture is AMAZING - indistinguishable from live (using ArcSoft - have not tried SageTV 6.4.3 beta yet). Perfect audio-video sync.

Nice to know that the HD-100 or Ziova CS-615 is not the only option for playback for those of us with older PC's.

There is of course the issue of how you hook up your PC to your TV. Both of my big-screens want PC in only via VGA port, and have strictly limited resolutions that mean you can't use the full screen. I have never understood why the manufacturers are so worried about hooking up via component and going 1280x720 but I haven't tried it either.

And the 2600XT is not the card for you if you also need maximum gaming under AGP. The X800XL and X1950 Pro blow it away in those departments. But for HD playback it is a champ.

Like many users, my last client PC is just too weak for h.264. I decided it was cheaper to get another STX-HD100 instead of playing the CPU/VideoCard roulette.

Very good news. I would, however, like to know if you get smooth playback using Sagetv. I have doubts about whether or not HW acceleration works with H.264 in Sagetv. My primary client will play BD discs and use only 25%-35% of the cpu using Arcsoft TMT. When playing back HDDVR recordings in Sage I see 65%-75% cpu. Something is not right with HW acceleration.

Please let us know how well playback works with Sagetv.

It depends on the decoder. The latest PowerDVD 8 Ultra decoder has DXVA acceleration built into the filter. It's a checkbox in the filter properties. I don't believe the filters by themselves had that option before.

The engineers found the problem. Some of the Ambarella chips were from a new batch, and they need a slightly different voltage. This will require a minor
hardware change upgrade.

So if the HD PVR works, then it can be used. If it doesn't work, then it needs
the hardware change upgrade.

I think they're making the changes on the units rigth now and should be ready to ship hopefully soon to anyone who has this problem with over heating give a week or two form today date 6/12/2008.
