Can you play DVD's in Windows Media Player?

DVD's are frequently CCS encrypted. The decoders that ship with Hauppauge capture cards for example can playback MPEG's just fine, but won't play encrypted DVD's. There are also separate decoder settings in Sage for DVD's - so you need to check there as well...

Go back to the default STV (SageTV3.xml) for all configuration options. The only things you should be configuring in SageMC are the SageMC options. If you are new to SageTV, get things working in the default STV before you start to customize.

You can set the DVD decoders in Setup -> Detailed Setup -> DVD.

Then, you mentioned mapping the DVD folder paths. Did you mean Windows' drive mapping feature? If so, you cannot use mapped drives when SageTV is using service mode. If you are trying to use network paths, or make the paths accessible for a client to use, use UNC paths instead & the service will need to be configured to log in as a user with a password who has permission to access the network paths.

Thanks guys for your help:
Opus, i'm not using the server, what i have is htpc sitting in my living room running connected to my tv as client, and when a said mapping i meant windows local network mapping, but it should not matter in this case, considering i'm running in a local machine.
When i shared and mapped my ripped dvd folder was to try and see if that was the problem, but when i thought about it i came to the conclusion that thats not the problem because it wont even play anything from the physical dvd drive,
so at this point i'm clue less, but i do know there must be a solution to this, i just can believe a simple thing is becoming so complicated for me, i'm lost
Thanks

If you've set the DVD decoders in SageTV at the location I mentioned above to ones that can play commercial DVDs and you still can't play a DVD in the DVD drive on the local PC by selecting the "Play DVD" option on the Media Center menu, then check with tech support. Unless someone else has a suggestion, I rarely do that and do not know what all could go wrong there.
