Tuning UK TV channles

Just downloaded the trial version of Sage TV and it looks a great bit of software, but I'm having problems tuning the UK TV channels.

I've got a Haupauge PVR 350 and I'm using the RF tuner and an ariel. Using the WinTV software that came with the card, I can scan for channels, it searches throught 75 channels and finds the five normal TV stations no problem. i.e., Channel 4 is on 35, ITV on 61 just like tuning on the TV itself.

When I try to find the channels in SageTV (or SageRecorder), it searches through a different number of channels (can't remember how many but it wasn't 75) and I find Channel 4 on 58 and it doesn't find any more channels.

It seems to be searching a different set of frequencies, I wondered if this was a US/UK problem.

In sage, when I set up the input device, I chose the 'Antenna; option.

I can get a picture using the composite input but obviously, I can't then get SageTV to change channels.

Can anyone help, either I'm missing something very obvious or someone else in the UK must have had the same problem.

Hi

You need to map the channels in channels setup, to the numbers you saw in wintv, so if channel 4 is 58 then remap channel four in sagetv to 58, and so on and so fourth.

Dan

P.S. I did the same thing when i started!!!

Wow, that was quick response, I like the service!

Thanks for your reply, I've looked at the channel remapping and as I understand it, this would allow me to make it so that the station it found on frequency 58, I get on 4 in my list which will work for channel 4 but the bigger problem I have is that it can't find BBC1, BBC2, ITV and Five (but the Haupage WinTV sofware can). Any Ideas on that?

Hi

You have to look around in Wintv, can't remember were, in the config channel section and use the numbers it uses, for the channels

You can also try these they are the frequencies for Hove, Sussex:
BBC1 = 57
BBC2 = 63
ITV = 60
Channel 4 = 53

Don't know about channel 5 I don't get it down here

I found time to look at this again at the weekend and found the problem.

I'd got my international settings in the control panel set to US instead of UK.

Apparently, the mapping of channels to frequencies is dependent upon your location. With WinTV, you get to specify your location during setup but with Sage, it obviously takes your location from the control panel settings.

I changed my location to UK and it all started working.
