Dish Network and Sage TV

I know you can control dish network STB's with USB-UIRT but I just hate the idea of this whole UIRT, its so a$$ backwards. Is there a way to control the STB's via USB cable or firewire, also is it possible to get the video signal from these Dish network STB's to the PC via firewire? I need a lil "up to date" way of controlling these STB's instead of taping UIRT's to the front of the STB's, any suggestions?

There are no serial or firewire ports.

I need a lil "up to date" way of controlling these STB's instead of taping UIRT's to the front of the STB's, any suggestions?

R5000 mod is the only alternative.

The HD STB from dish all have usb and ethernet on the back of them, they not used for anything ?

Nothing PC related. They can phone home over that, and I think maybe VOD (though I'm not sure if that's out or just rumoured).
