Apparent Network Issue

I am having a strange issue with the HD200, which had been working. It seems that outbound traffic from the device doesn't happen. For example, although I can set a static IP address (DHCP won't work), and can telnet into the HD200, I can't do much of anything else. Trying to set the Weather Zip code doesn't work. Trying to ping my router from within the telnet session (192.168.1.1) doesn't work.

So, in short, I know this guy is on the network, because I can telnet into it. But I can't do anything useful with it.

Support just said "check your network configuration." Everything else on the network works fine....DHCP, etc. Any ideas on how to diagnose this? (Not that the log file shows things like java.io.IOException when I try and do these things.

I have a completely worthless HD200.

Depending how you have your network:

-Can you move your HD200 to another part of your network?
-Try a different Network cable
-Try to connect directly to internet without going through your router
-If you have a router, try to make the ipaddress of the HD200 able to bypass the security protocols of your router

Thanks for the ideas, here is what I have tried:

-Can you move your HD200 to another part of your network?
-Try a different Network cable

I have plugged it into a different network port using a different cable.

-Try to connect directly to internet without going through your router
I can't really try this very easily with my setup.

-If you have a router, try to make the ipaddress of the HD200 able to bypass the security protocols of your router
Something that is strange is even when I set a static IP address, the router doesn't list it as a client. But, again, I can telnet into it via the router...

What is your router model number and brand?

Some router have wierd IP addresses. Most are 192.168.0.1 or .100.

My router has something called DMZ (other routers may call it differently), you can try to see if you can assign and connect your HD200 to that assigned IP to see if that works.

The router IP is 192.168.1.1. It is working fine, giving addresses to other devices. And, this was working fine with the HD200.

Is there a way to update the firmware from a USB stick?

Why would you want to update your HD200 when it is obvious you are having a network problem? There is no reason why it shouldn't grab a DHCP address if other devices can. It sounds like you have a port issue. Something is blocking the ports that the HD200 need to talk on. (It sounds like the ports for telnet are open) I would start looking at firewalls or internet security applications you have running on your network. I would hold off on any attempt of flashing the firmware until the network issues are resolved.
