next/prev track key mapping, just a thought!

Hey I was wondering if anyone has submitted this as an official bug/feature request.

I noticed that you can change tracks if your in the visualization mode by pressing the channel up/down. I also noticed that while your browsing the menues you can press stop/play/pause to control the music, however pressing channel up/down moves you within the menu. Why not map the next/prev track to a different button so that users could change tracks while browsing the menues?

Hit the live tv button, ch + or -, then hit it again. It will put you right back where you were. Just one extra push.

You can configure your remote nearly any way you want. (If it is the Hauppauge remote, edit irremote.ini to switch key assignments.) While SageTV always combines Ch +/- with either Up/Down or Pg Up/Pg Down, you can use Up/Down and/or Pg Up/Pg Down by themselves. The biggest problem is determining how you want your remote confiugred to best operate for you. (It would be nice to be able to use Ch +/- and ff/rew on their own buttons instead of always bundled with something else.)

Edit: I now see falchulk already gave a workaround that doesn't really need key/button remapping.

Yeah this is the problem.

Channe up / down is also shared with music prev/next and with navigating menues top/bottom. Way to much!

I would actually think prev/next track would share better with skip back / skip forward command. Why? Because this is typically mapped to the prev/next on a remote, and it would not interfere with the menu.

I realize its beta and this is where we should catch some realworld testing. With that said I think the entire layout of keys should be reconsidered. I realize Sage has for a long time used the same keys. But sometimes change is for the better. I mean ^D for play makes little sense to me, or ^X for guide. The (default) keyboard mapping makes it much more difficult to navigate for first-time users in my opinion.

Ulitimately I would perfer to be able to assign keyboard shortcuts to multiple (nonconflicting) commands. Like assign '>' to both next track on the music player and to skip forward 1x. Ofcourse ultimately I would also like to erase keyboard commands I have accidentially added as well .

Until then Falchulks method seems to work, so thanks for the tip!

I am trying to get a better Sage2 profile bundled with the snapstream Firefly, but so far I am limited because by default some commands do not even have values. Such as skip forward 2x.

Maybe not _that_ menu, but it would still interfere elsewhere...

I wouldn't mind having more separated commands for those who are using a remote with more buttons.
