I know this is a strange place to post this but...
On an uninterruptible power supply, what are the plastic jacket things called that are on the end of the wires that slide over the battery terminals called? |

Are you talking about something that looks like these?
![]() If so, those are usually just called crimp connectors. You can pick them up at Radio Shack or similar store.

On larger UPSes, the crimp connectors can be uninsulated so heat shrink tubing is shrunk over the bare metal connector after installation.

I think more technically they are called 'solderless connectors.' And, most of them that slide onto such batteries should be insulated (the plastic shrouds the whole connector).

You should be able to find what you're looking for ("blade connectors") at an auto parts or hardware store.

Most basic wire strippers have a crimper in the top portion of the jaws. There are usually three spots to crimp and each of the three spots has a color dot next to it. This refers to the color of the blade connector. So if you get yellow connectors, use the yellow crimper hole.
See the picture below for an example of a basic wire stripper with the crimper at the top of the stripper tool. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...Supplies_1.jpg

I should also mention that the color of the crimp connectors relates to the size wire you are crimping to. So pick your crimps by wire size, not by what color you like the best
