rogers 3250 / 4250 HD box with HD PVR -> sage tv?
Hey there,
Just curious if anyone with Rogers has their system setup with an HD 3250 or 4250 box to a Haupague HD PVR into sage and watching using an extender? Curious if there are any odd setup issues, did you use an USB-UIRT?

I use Rogers SA3200 / 4250HD with SageTV. I will be disconnecting the SA3200 this week and adding another 4250HD + HD-PVR in order to be all HD.
My HD-PVR has been working very well since I got it last year - 5.1 optical sound no problem. I updated to the latest driver recently but the previous one worked well also. When I compare picture quality - HDMI from the 4250HD directly to the TV vs. the HD-PVR via component - I can't tell the difference (40" LCD). I use USB-UIRT for channel changing but just switched to firewire on the 4250HD. All my viewing is on HD200 extenders and I watch live TV frequently. So everything works flawlessly except when I tinker, which is all the time! Enjoy.

I also have my Rogers 4250 hooked up to a HD-PVR and all my viewing is done through the HD200 using WHS as my OS. For the most part everything works great but my HD-PVR does decide to lock up every so often which requires a reset.
As for set up the hardest part was getting FireWire channel changing to work. The pain was worth it however as the IR blaster I was using before was not reliable. FireWire changing is flawless though once you get it setup. I am also thinking about adding a second HD-PVR once I can confirm my system can handle recording two HD shows at once.

See my sig for my setup - I am using two 3250HD units on my setup and two USB-UIRT units to control them and my SD boxes as well.
I had a 4250HD in my setup but I was having issues so I changed it to a 3250HD. I have one more HD-PVR and the 4250HD that I will be adding back into the system when I get the time. I was using firewire for channel changing all of my SA boxes but had problems that I thought might be casued by that method. Every now and then my SA box would not put out video to the HD-PVR - recordings were just a black screen. If I channel changed with the SA box was like this then it would display the channel banner but no video behind it - weird!? I would have to power-cycle the SA box to make it work again. At the time I was thinking that the firewire channel change was messing up the box so I bought 2 USB-UIRT's and set them up to control my boxes. I thought the problem was solved but every now an then it happens again although not as often as I though it was with the firewire changing. My setup is not too bad although once in a while I need to power-cycle either the boxes or the HD-PVR's - I check my recordings often if I am not going to watch them for a while just to make sure I have good captures. It would be nice if it were a bit more dependable but I am happy with my results so far.

Cheers for the answers. I didn't know rogers opened up the firewire port. I have to get this OTA thing sorted out first. Good to know that everything can be done the way it should be. Rogers never ceases to amaze me with something they won't allow.
Cheers

Be aware that I have only successfully used the firewire ports for Channel Changing ONLY!
When I played with trying to get video out of firewire it was so lame that I gave up and purchased HD-PVR's.

That's cool I would only want to use it for channel changing. I have a USB-urit n case I can't get it working. As for video I'm going to pass it through the HD-hvr then to USB.
