I converted to the extenders when they were released and retired all of my desktop client next to TVs. So, I really have looked around in a while.
I see Dell has a descent small quiet device, Inspiron Zino HD: http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/deskt...hd&cs=19&s=dhs $250 ... It looks like it would be good for a TV, but maybe not a surround sound system. I think one would need something like a USB-UIRT to make it usable. Anyone tried one of these? |

Personally, I wouldn't buy a Dell. Why? read this:

I'm reviewing a Dell Zino HD right now and it's good. But personally I would always choose an extender over a PC if given the choice. If they were to throw in HD Audio into the SageTV extender and I could say that without flinching a tiny bit

On one hand, I'd always take an extender over a client PC mainly for lack of maintenance.
On the other hand, at least dell has stock

![]() FWIW, my neighbor has a Zino that he uses for web surfing and streaming video content to his HDTV and he's been pleased with it... he does not have SageTV, though, and he doesn't use it for a huge amount of stuff. Mostly streaming videos for his kids from Disney and other websites, and watching the occasional movie he gets from bit-torrent (tsk, tsk...) He runs Ubuntu on it (I believe) and he says it handles video very well (of course, that's pretty much what it's specifically designed to do)

Would you really not buy a Dell because of a NYT article?

I don't by Dell based on the support I didn't get in the past. Dell is fine if you're looking for cheap hardware. You get what you pay for, and it's apparent from the article. |

Run on SageTV Media Extenders??
I am always late to the party ;-)
I finally want to lay my mitts on a SageTV Media Extender and there seems to be a run on them. Sage doesn't have any in stock nor any news of more stock coming. Prices for them on e-bay are exorbitant. Recently two HD100s went for near 150 and 185 respectively. And two HD200s for more than 250. Any sage advice how to get a media extender? Thanks! * merged * |

Yeah stories in the printed media are suspect, but you can always trust what you read in an internet forum.

So back to the topic of the HD200 being out of stock. I work in the electronics industry and know that lead times for some devices are 12-16 weeks and some are now pushing 24 weeks. Everyone has dropped their inventory levels when the economy tanked and no one wants to take the risk of creating inventory they can't sell.
I am also ready to buy 1 or 2 more extenders so it would be nice to know how long before stock is replenished OR if there is something else coming. |

Whatever the case, a little input from the company would be nice. This is just downright frustrating. You don't want your customers frustrated.

It is one thing to be out of stock for a short period of time (1-2weeks) but 5+ weeks later we are still being told nothing. Why keep an imminent release of a new system secret especially now that there is no possible loss of sales of HD200s? Why keep it a secret that there is a shortage of parts to make HD200s? Indeed, why not simply let folks know what is up? I like so many others in this thread am in the market for another HD200 or preferably a HD300 but at some point I may need to move in another direction. However, a little information from Sage would go a long ways!
