Are There Any Alternative Themes Available For 7?

.... like something that does away with the photographs on the main menu?

Check out the diamond theme or the theme section in the plugin menu.

Here are the themes available. I'm using MBDiamond with my own background. I can't wait to get my hands on the upcoming Diamond (sans MB) theme!

That one's on my keepers list. Thanks.

Just so I know I'm on the same square as everybody else, would it be correct to say that at least some of the alternate themes are just somebody substituting other bitmaps for the standard ones?

Or is there more under the surface?

Yes.

For actual changes in the UI behavior you would use the UI Mod plugins of your choice or a Full UI replacement (I thing SageMC has been ported to v7 for example). I believe Ortus and Phoenix will be Full UI replacements once they're released.

Sooo... if one were to dabble in this, what is the best way to get started. I was thinking of copying the whole Sagetv\STVi\sagetV7\themes\standard to a new name. Then I can go in and replace the images as needed.

How do you get the theme to show up as an option? Do you need a restart of the server to see the new theme folder and it's images?

Don't know when I'll get around to it, but was thinking of trying a Halloween theme.

Just make a new folder under theme and name it and it will show up per the theme.properties file information.

You don't need to copy the whole folder. Just make a new folder under Themes and put your new images in there. Any images you don't provide will default to the corresponding images from the Standard theme.

Also take a look at Theme.properties in the Standard theme. It contains a fair amount of documentation of the theme system.

My point for copying the whole folder was to get the filenames for each of the different images. It would make it easier (I think) to "save as" the correct names.

True although allot of the file names are mentioned in the theme.properties as well and can be changed.

or you can look in the standard theme folder for the names... the benefit of not copying over the entire folder... is that you end up with a cleaner theme... you are only redistributing those images that you want to change...

Thanks. I will give it a try.

Meanwhile, I've found that Setup | Detailed Setup | Advanced | Select the User Interface Theme = MBDiamond does pretty much what I was ranting about in my OP.
