Latest Sage Beta - Wheel Spinning for several minutes

Hi,

Im currently running the latest beta on a standalone test machine (win 7 64 Bit) (This will become my main Sage Server once I've bedded it all in).

Whenever I try to go to any submenus (Live Tv, System Information, etc) I get the spinning wheel for several minutes - it will eventually open but has taken as long as 15 mins on occasion.

The system is an AMD dual core Phenom II X2 550 with 3gb ram

I have HDHR and a Collosus hooked up to it - I have the constant semi transparant 'Updating' constantly on the bottom left of the screen which I wondered about being related to this. (If I look at system resources when the wheel is spinning It isn't running too high on either CPU or Ram (about 18% and 300 mb respectively - I have Java Heap size set to 1024MB).

Im going to remove the collosus and see if that helps (I noticed in system info it was 'getting details' for that.

Has anyone else seen this - or have any suggestions.

Cheers

Mark

I removed Collosus - but it made no difference.

it has happened to lots of others..........turn off plugins, and turn them on one at a time to see which one is likely the culprit..........this worked for me and many others

and in general , logs are way more useful than screen shots. I know what the spinning wheel looks like.

Why do you have 27 system messages in the first screen shot? Aren't you seeing what is causing them and then deleting them? Also it says its updating 10 items at the time that screen shot was taken so that could be the cause why your getting the spinning wheel for up to 15 minutes.

Thx Cat6man - Im disabling all the plugins - I will check as soon as the wheel finishes spinning if that sorts it.

JP - the images were to show the updating image I have constantly and the message that the system was getting details for the Collosus - not to show a spinning wheel.

Trallyus - the system messages are because of line up updates and me moving drives around between computers so recording directories went missing - good point about the updates - Im switching off the imports now so I'll see how that shows in the system info after.

Cheers

sorry i wasn't clearer...........just UI related plugins may be at fault..........no need, i believe, to disable others

apparently there are some UI plugins that may not have been updated to work with some api changes in the 7.1 beta

Thx for the suggestions - I actually uninstalled all my plugins (I don't use many) - but Im still getting the issue occuring.

What I have noticed is that for some screens (e.g. TV Guide) once I've been to it once and endured the spinning wheel, thenext time I access It, its fine.

Anyone have any other Ideas ?

Cheers

Mark

Thanks Ranger - I did have a networked drive linked - Removing that seems to have helped - But it still seems to be occurring.

I switched on logging (attached) and noticed that When the wheel spinning started (At 10:01:15.738) I got the following message repeated over and over in the log:-

AWTThreadWatcher-SAGETV_PROCESS_LOCAL_UI@19269cb] EventThread-SAGETV_PROCESS_LOCAL_UI Hang Detected - hang time = 2250

Anyone have any ideas what causes that ?

Cheers

That's a very general message. The stuff in the logfile leading up to that message is what's needed to help diagnose the problem.

Edit: And looking at your logfile I see not much out of the ordinary except for a bunch of errors indicating that the client-server connection took a long time. Do you have a mixture of Sage6 and Sage7 on your network?

Thx for looking Tmiranda - No I've got my main server on the network which is running the non Beta V7 Sage - other than that I only got 2 extenders - 1 x HD100 and 1 X HD300.

I'll upgrade the main server to latest beta as well - In the meantime I'll power it down for a bit and see if there was any issues with having both servers on the same network running different versions of V7.

Cheers

Mark

I'll bet this is the problem.

Unfortunately not - All the extenders are off as is the main server and it still happens.

I do see that before each instance of it in the logs there is :-
Fork-OPUS4-108092@1be908c] ENDING Forked weather thread.

But I have no idea if that is coincidence or actually has any relevance.

I've raised a support ticket (interesting point for both Sage and the level of help on the forums - this is the first time I've ever needed to raise one - and I've been using Sage for over 7 years !)

If anyone can think of anything else, all input gratefully received - I'll update If I hear anything from support or figure it out.

Cheers

Mark

Mark,
by any chance did you install the hauppage win tv 7 software and use the arcsoft video decoders after the installation?

The reason I ask is I installed the win tv 7 software and then sage showed I had access to new decoders called arcsoft video decoders.

When I tried using the arcsoft video decoders from the win tv 7 software I would get the spinning wheel for quite a long time before it would play the video.

Once I tried something other then those decoders everything speeded up. Also make sure your direct x is turned on as if it is not youll experiance the spinning wheel alot as well.

Thank you Trallyus - that seems to have done it - I switched out Arcsoft for ffdshow and its working great - I'll monitor it over the next few days and see how it goes. (Once this is all bedded in I won't be using playback on the server - just the extenders anyway).

Cheers

Thx JP - I'll have a check when I get home and see if the settings stuck.

Im running win 7 - I got FFDshow to play almost straight away - but I'll try Divx as well.

Cheers
