What is needed to view SageTV from on the road?

I travel sometimes and I would like to see my recording from a hotel room
I seen here once that someone took there SageTV HD Theater with them and watched Sage.

This is what I want to do, purchase a SageTV HD Theater 300 and take on the road and hook it to a hotel TV.

Can someone tell me what is required?

I have SageTV Server V6.6.2 Release Candidate already.

Guessing you're on the road for work and have your laptop with you? If so just install Placeshifter on your laptop.

I also used to carry a set of Video / Audio cables for my laptop so I could hook it up to the TV in the hotel room.

Lastly if you can find an app that lets you use your phone / tablet as a remote or even bluetooth keyboard / mouse then you can remotely control the whole setup from the bed =)

I've also found a way to view SageTV via my iPad using the Splashtop app.

There's a guide over on geektonic. I wrote it before there was a wifi dongle for the extenders. you can pretty much follow that guide for what you want, as I bring an extender along with me during vacation and stream live tv, recorded shows, and imported video's. Basically using it like I was still at home.

The Laptop I have is a Dell Latitude E6410 and it doesn't have any video out except the blue analog monitor connector, this is why I want to purchase the SageTV HD Theater 300 and take on the road.

E6410 has a Displayport connector. Sounds like you probably need this;

That said a lot of hotel rooms still have CRTs, so HDMI isn't a 100% solution.

Lets see best all round way is with External USB Mass Storage Devices and copy the file you want.
Yup that guide over at geektonic is another way but that only useful if you can get highspeed internet on both ends.

I agree with you, USB Mass Storage is probably the best way to view files, but it's a pain to constantly be moving them. I would also think that most people that use sage probably have hi-speed at home, and can probably find it while on the road. (Most hotels have decent/not great speed). Heck, I plan to test the wifi-router in my phone with 4g/3g to see how it works in the near future.

It's just really nice to have the same interface and access to ALL shows, so that it seems your at home watching TV.

Your list above could be parred down, to just HDMI cable, combo Composite cable (Audio L/R, and Video), and the wifi dongle. (HD200 anyways, not sure if HD300 supports composite)

I would have to disagree. Most Hotels "Claim" High Speed, but what you actually get is horrible. Unless you want to wait until the off-peak usage times in the wee hours where it becomes more acceptable.

When I go on the road (not often now adays), I take an external drive with what I want.

Let not forget the problem with wifi they don't away work well in Hotels, Motels and Inns and really hate b or g mode.
hugenbdd I did add wifi dongle becuases they don't always work well in place like that there best in web and email checking

Pretty much all flat screen TVs have a VGA connection so just carry a VGA cable and connect it to this blue analog monitor connector. If the hotel doesn't have an HDTV then consider staying in different hotels.

As an aside - it totally ticks me off that most better hotels these days have HDTVs in the rooms but very few of them provide an HD source and many have very crappy analog cable connections.

The best hotel I ever stayed in for these purposes was The Cloisters at Sea Island. Even about 3-4 years ago they had SA8300HD-PVRs in the rooms - I think this is the only time I have ever see digital cable boxes in a hotel room and certianly the only time that I had a cable company PVR. I hate these PVRs as provided by my cable company but at a hotel it is SO much better than a crappy analog cable connection with tons of noise.

Just use the Placeshifter client on your laptop. For one or two shows, it ain't that bad. If you are in your hotel room enough to watch hours and hours of TV and want to plug your laptop or a HD300 into the hotel TV, then maybe you should go out and have a drink instead.
