Moving Recordings to a Laptop?

I do a ton of travelling. I have a large number of SageTV recordings that I would love to copy to my laptop/Ipad/etc to watch while am on a plane or otherwise disconnected.

1. For a laptop - What do I need on my laptop to watch the recordings? What files types do I need to copy over? Or what convertions do I need to do to just use the Windows Media Player.

2. What convertions and tools are neccessary to get the recordings in a format that I can import them into ITunes so i can play on IPad/IPhone.

The goal is to be able to watch when disconnected from a network.

Thanks,

Aepitaz

Get VLC which will play most (if not all) media types. http://www.videolan.org/

Someone else will have to answer the I-tunes questions since I don't use it.

You will need to convert the files to a new format that the iPad supports. To do this, you can use the built in converter with the Apple TV profile (for the iPad) or the iPhone profile (for the iPhone).

Personally, I use WinFF to convert my videos and I created a custom profile for SD iPad videos and HD iPad videos. If you end up using WinFF, feel free to message me and I will send you the profiles.

After you convert the videos, you load the converted videos into your iTunes library and transfer them like any other library item over to your iPad/iPhone.
