An easy way to support STB -> Firewire? idea!

I have a good idea about how to support recording of HDTV firewire, but not sure if SageTV could support it or not.

You already have a .DLL plugin that allows use of a external tuning device. How hard would it be to add a plugin for an external tuner device.

This is all that would need to be done.

If the channel I want to record is in a certain list, I would like SageTV to handle tuning the channel and then send a command to an external program. It should be able to pass a few variables to the external program like Title, Duration and Channel - just like the external tuner program does.

I think I could even use the external tuner .dll method to actually do the recording if the external tuner .dll could also pass the duration of the program to record. Then my external program could handle both the tuning and the recording. I would still need to figure out how to tell the Hauppauge blaster to tune the program, but I haven't looked at the blaster's OCX file to see if it has libraries exposed or not.

Unfortunately there is no true windows driver that I know of for an external firewire tuner. None of the cable box manufacturers have written drivers for their stbs. So people are working on both the driver issue and workarounds to access the firewire bus directly to send commands to change channels. The same level of support isn't there that exists for say a pvr250 card.
