NFL football on CBS was 5.1 on the downstairs big screen, but not on the HTPC with the nVidia decoder. Odd a touch, eh?

Have you experienced the issue with .ts files after rewinding/fast forwarding w/ no audio?

So I'm working on getting surround sound to work for playing DVDs as well. I went through the changes suggested earlier and that has helped some, but when I go to set up the Nvidia decoder as described, the option for 'S/PDIF out' is greyed and I can't select it, so I can only select the Pro Logic out. This is an improvement, but I'd still like to get the Dolby Digital working I'm using a Turtle Beach Catalina (Envy24 based) soiundcard. The sound card setting is set up to allow AC3 and PCM output on the digital out. Open to any suggestions

Do you pick?
Connected To = A Reciever
Via = An S/PDIF Cable

I did pick conencted to a receiver. But hte SPDIF cable option is grayed out and I can't select it, I can only select the Prologic option. Unless you're referring to a different screen than the nvidia decoder settings?

Yes, I can get to that screen. My problem is that I cannot select the 'via SPDIF cable' box. It is greyed out. And there's an option under it that says 'ProLogic'

Nvidia Audio Decoder Doesn't Work

When I set the MPEG2 Audio Decoder filter = nVidia audio decoder, I get absolutely no sound. All the other settings are identical. Any ideas?

Went into SageTV4 and configure "detailed setup" video/audio as:
Mpeg2 Video decoder filter = nVidia Decoder
Audio Renderer = default
MPEG2 Audio Decoder filter = nVidia audio decoder

Same type thing for the DVD.

DVD now chooses DTS or DDig based upon DVD Menu choice.
OTA HDTV from CBS (Without a Trace) is Dolby Digital, but Prologic and not 5.1?
Also, playing back a .ts file from Sage Recordings ... sound fine but if you rewind/fast forward audio goes away and doesn't return?

I figured since you knocked it out of the park on the last one, this one would be easy for you!

Make sure you have the speaker setup configured like in the picture I posted.

Aganerral,

I don't know why it's not there, but you can try this:
in regedit
in HKLM\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Filters\Audio
"ConnectedDevicePropControl"=dword:00000002
"EnableSPDIFPassThru"=dword:00000001
"SpdifPropControl"=dword:00000001

My speaker configuration is identical. I also have problems if I set it to AC3filter and set AC3Filter to SPDIF (in that case I get an error rendering sound). Is it possible that my sound card just isn't supported? It is a Turtle Beach Riviera (the bottom of the line for Turtle Beach).

I've found that the nVidia settings take a little magic to get things done "right". First, there will be a folder in \Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\ForceWare\nStant Media and inside there is an application called "nStantMedia.exe" -- there's settings and configuration that you must go through to get the decoder setup. Second, you must go and configure the codec in WMP10 via instructions posted in this thread.

It's really important to do some experimenting, because even though you might be using the nVidia coded for the audio, you may only get 2 ch stereo. This is because there are some configuration adjustments to make to tell it to do 5.1 (in both the config areas previously mentioned) -- ALSO -- play a DVD from WMP10 (non full screen mode) and RH click on the nVidia icon that will show up in the lower RH corner of the taskbar tray. There are additional settings in there that you can access, but I'm guessing they reside in other areas as well.

All in all, once you get everything with the right checkmarks in the right boxes, SageTV will playback audio and video from DVD and OTA SD/HDTV much better and will output the correct type of audio (e.g. 2ch, 5.1, etc)

** HERE'S MY NEW PROBLEM **
Even though I've gotten everything working "correctly" for the audio outputs, now if I pause TV or try to FF/RW a file, the audio GOES AWAY. In OTA mode, it won't come back unless I switch channels.

ARRRRRRRGH!!!!

Anyone got an answer for *that* little nugget?

BTW -- I gave an incomplete description prior.

If I try to FF/RW or pause live DIGITAL (both SD and HD) TV via OTA from my ATI HDTV Wonder card, the audio goes away and won't come back unless I switch channels. Also, any SHOWS recorded as .ts files from the ATI card -- the audio goes away if you FF/RW the recordings!

The Hauppauge PVR150 card is using the S-video & audio inputs to receive my DirecTV feed, and it works fine for pause and FF/RW. Also, the .ts file playback on those recorded from the Hauppauge work fine. There's no audio issues with DVD playback either.

SO--------------- WTF?????

FWIW, I've never (on 2 PCs) had to do anything with nStantMedia to get the decoders configured correctly.

I'm guessing that this is more related to the H/W mfg (ATI) than the S/W -- because it does work just fine on the S-video delivered content via the Hauppauge PVR150 card. Since that setup of H/W, S/W & SageTV works dandy I'm guessing that there is something that the ATI HDTV Wonder doesn't like so much.

Also -- if I do change the setup in SageTV for audio/video decoder filter to the the ATI/Cyberlink driver the FF/RW element works fine -- except that the audio output is ALWAYS 2.1 pro-logic rather than 5.1 (which the PureVideo switches just fine.)

I'm seriously considering trying another OTA HDTV card to see if I can clear this up. Truthfully, the ATI HDTV Wonder hasn't been the best experience to date!

I'm having a similar audio problem:
Inside Sage, if i play back ripped DVDs or mpegs, i get PCM mode to my receiver.
However, if i have Sage Launch TT 2.2.1 for movie playback, i get DD 3/2 w/ full surround mode & THX processing on my receiver.

Sage is set to use NVIDA Codecs for both audio & video. This seems very strange as that's the same thing that TT uses, and TT is working perfectly...

What am i missing?

Thanks,
Jeff

With any setup there are a ton of variables. My set up is as follows, and DD and DTS work:

MSI board using onboard audio. NVIDIA 4.62 audio drivers. NV Mixer set to 5.1 Speakers. NVIDIA decoders, audio section set for "A Receiver via S/PDIF". MS Decoder Check verified that NVIDIA is preferred. "Default' set in Sage for everything audio. Optical cable from board to Logitech control pod.

Gotcha. I'm setup that way. My audio (as described before) still goes away.
