Nope, RGBHV and VGA are identical electrically, but different physically, both cary Red, Green, Blue, and Horizontal/Vertical sync signals separately.

Componet (in it's usual meaning) Uses only 3 connections, one for Luma (brighness) + sync (Y), one for Blue difference (Pb), and one for Red difference (Pr).

OK - I got a VGA to RGBHV breakout cable and conected it to the Mitsu HDTV. I set the input type to DTV using RGB. The TV sees "no signal". I tried setting the PC to an initial resolution of 640x480 (which worked for VGA connection), still nothing. Is there some setting that I am missing?

did you try other standard resolutions? 720x480p, 1280x720p or 1920x1080i (i don't know if 1080i is supported through vga out on your card)?

If you can't get it to work, component is usually the safest bet for htpc to TV.

On the back of my Pioneer Elite there is a switch to enable connection types. Do you have something similar?

Check the refresh rate on the video card. Set the adaptor frequency to 60hz and see if the signal shows up.

Are you using the second output on your video card? The server may need to be rebooted to allow the video card to "see" the VGA cable connected to the card and to turn that port on.

And make sure you don't have the H/V sync cables swapped

Played around with powerstrip last night. I'm using a "test" monitor for setup and then switching to the Mitsu. I am using 640x480 @ 60hz for my initial testing because that seems to be the most universal res and I know that that res works through the VGA to VGA connection.

Still nothing - what am I missing????

BTW - Stanger - I checked the connections last night and all the colors match up, so I dont think I have the V & H cables swapped.

who could've guessed it would be so difficult to connect a simple PC to a simple TV?????

mrothwell,

If you haven't got this working yet, there is a selection in the menu of the Mits to tell it what kind of signal the DTV input is getting. It's in the Input Assignment section. Goto the DTV item and select RGBHV. Otherwide it will never see anything connected to RGBHV.

That should do it.
