There is a slider in StaxRip for the Aspect Ratio which I can slide to increase the resolution to say 528x384 or 704x512. I'm not sure what aspect ratio I should use and how it affects quality and other settings to use with a specific resolution.

Thanks,
Mike

as stated in another thread you are having quality problems with Staxrip. Compare apples to apples. When importing video into Recode, open up the video settings and check the resolution it gives you at your desired bitrate or size. Now open video into Stax and match the settings as best you can.

You will have issues if you are trying to keep the resolution that high with a small filesize. At 528x384 you'd be at about 350MB for a 45 minute vdeo.

You have to maintain a certain AR so the video doesn't look stretched horizontally or vertically.

Staxrip is good in that regards where it will WARN you if quality is too low, AR is out of whack or how much compressability you have to work with. That's why I recommended it to you.

If you need further help with it or any other encoding needs, you should check out http://forum.doom9.org
scroll down to mpeg-4 and Co. section.
