DVD Volume Problem

I am having the issue where TV volume is fine, but DVD playback is very very soft. I tried to use the AC3 filter codec, but when I set the MPEG decoder to AC3, the changes I make in the control panel applet (related to volume specifically) don't do anything. Any suggestions or perhaps a different decoder suggestion?

No, it didn't but thank you for your post. There wasn't really a solution there.

Are you reloading the media player after making changes in the AC3 configuration panel? I don't think the changes take effect until the media player has been reloaded.

I think there are several different versions of the AC3 filter. If I remember right, I had to download 2 before finding one that worked for me.

I have been reloading the media player. And I will try another version since you suggested it. Thanks for your post.

No unfortunately, the same problem occurs. I switched to the PowerDVD codecs and I guess it seems a little better but I'm sure that's just a placebo effect. I really wish I could get the AC3 filter to adjust the sound. If it makes a difference, I'm using SPDIF from the computer to the receiver.

What changes are you making inside of AC3Filter?

Best way to set things up are to use graphedit... and render a VOB file in the program and it should show AC3Filter in the graph. Enter properties there, and play the file (with graphedit) you should see realtime stats with AC3Filter and can make chages while you are listening to the file. I think the sound will always be soft in DVD... I don't believe you can get it as loud stereo output from the tuners... just becasue that is the way the DVDs are authored, but you can boost output a little!

You'll notice the same thing with OTA ATSC...it's the AC3, like Stanger said.
