I think we found the problem (I screwed up the example add2dvdq preference in the download ). I've updated the download page with instuctions for how to properly configure that preference and i'll get to updating the download tommorow.

I have not tried the multi-selection dvd, but I got the single working. The only thing I have not figured out is how to integrate the comskip stuff. Maybe I missed a pref parameter somewhere. Thoughts?

Nope, there are no parameters for the comskip files. It just checks to see if it exists, and if it does, it reads out the data. Can you send me one of your log files to the email address I PM'ed you? Also, is it possible that comskip was running while you were creating the DVD? While comskip is running it creates a blank file with the correct name that would trick my script into thinking it found the file and that there were no commercials.

I just tried to do a multifile dvd burn, 2 ,1 hour episodes of sopranos(that were originally in svcd format).

the resulting dvd image file was 5.5GB, too large for a disc... why/how would this happen?
seems silly that you cant fit 2 hours of video...

also, why do i always have to stop and restart dirmon after 1 disc is burned?
if I dont, it doesnt seem to detect the new qdvd file on its own... unless it is a periodic check based on a timer?

Dirmon2 checks periodically on a timer specified in the poll time setting in the 3rd tab. By default it is set to 600 seconds, I believe, but I crank it down to 10 seconds because I hate waiting

hey sorry for cluttering the forum, right after I asked the questions, I think I figured out why.

I did find the poll setting in dirmon, thanks.

as for the dvd img that wouldnt fit on a disc, I believe one of the eposides was not in svcd format, but rather, 2gb/hour dvd format. the other was svcd... would that makes sense as to why it wouldnt fit on one blank dvd-r? the img size was 5.5gb.

Nope that shouldn't matter at all. Go ahead and send the log file for that and it should have all the info I need to figure out why it happened. Or better yet, change the extention of the logfile to .txt and post it here on the forums.

Huh, that's a new one...

Code:
Getting Video Info: "C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\SageTVTranscoder.exe" -i "D:\sagetv\3TheSopranos-Mayham-1359858-0.mpg" -t 1 "D:\DVD\dvdList.0.WorkFolder\temp.mpg" 2>"D:\DVD\dvdList.0.WorkFolder\3TheSopranos-Mayham-1359858-0.vidInfo.txt"
Duration Line[0]: Duration: 00:02:54.0, start: 0.289378, bitrate: 113557 kb/s
According to ffmpeg, your video is only 2:54.0 minutes long(which is obviously not true), and since I do all of my bitrate calculations based off that time it's throwing everything off. I'm not 100% sure why its doing that, but I imagine there are some crafty ways I can get around it.

As i've never seen this before i'm fairly certain this a rare occurance but just to be sure, i'll check out all of my recordings tommorow and see how often it happens.

if any help, the size of mayham on disk is 2.41 GB, and the video time is 42 minutes.

I think it must be soemthign weird with the file... which plays just fine via sage and vlc media player.

Are you sure about that 42 minutes, cause the all my math (and zap2it's EPG data for the Soprano's) says the video time should be ~60 minutes. Have you made cuts to the show or anything like that?

ot said 42 minutes in vlc media player.
but no I am not sure... if I check in asge, that should give me correct time yes?
in sage it says 2:54(same as your ffmpeg... i can confirm that the movie contains the full program... when i watch it in vlc.so if sopranos is an hour, its an hour.
give or take a few mintues.

however, in sage, the file only plays for 2:54 so basically opening credits... in vlc the entire show plays... it must be corrupted in some strange way.

Yeah, if even VLC can't calculate the time right then you know your video has serious problems

I checked all 150+ of my videos today and I didn't see any of them having their times misreported so i'm thinking you just got really unlucky and stumbled onto a bad video on your your first shot

I'll add a check in the next version to have the script skip videos with bad times like that, but in the mean time I think your safe to keep burning DVD's.

Let me know if you have any more troubles

Sorry to have to ask, but will this only work with SageMC? If so, why?

Thanks.

Yep, only SageMC for now, and as for why, I just haven't gotten to making a default STVi yet. I'm still busy adding the finishing touches to the transcoding as well as cranking out a custom, souped up, version of the menu generation code for Media Portal.

6/05/06 v1.1
- Re-re-moved menuGen.exe into separate program. Hopefully it will work this time
- Added check to make sure ffmpegs reported video time is within 10 minutes of the time estimated by a function of the bitrate and file size
- Desired bitrates are recalculated after every run of ffmpeg. This should help fine tune DVD size accuracy
- non-Mpeg2 video are now transcoded first because they will usually transcode smaller than desired. Smaller than predicted files = more available bitrate = better chance SDTV shows will demux/remux rather than transcode.
- Added support for PAL... I think
- Changed add2DVDQ preference so you no longer append dvdList, I do that automatically, so just put the path there now.
- Split perl2dvd preferences into two files. One with the basic preferences that have to be changed and one with the advanced preferences that should only be changed if you know what you are doing. Hopefully this will make things less confusing for people.
- Old VIDEO_TS folders are now being deleted while debugging.

As always if you have any problems, post your preference files and .qdvd.log file on the forum and i'll do my best to get you going.

Looks interesting, some questions...

Ok, trying to figure this thing out and what it can do for me. I only record HD, and like to preserve as much PQ as possible. From what I can tell, you are transcoding all HD to 720p, correct? I'm wondering how this would look compared to a very high quality 1080i show, say Star Wars Ep 3 that just aired this weekend. This show in itself poses some interesting dilemnas. My recorded file size was 9.23GB, which also started 1 minute early, and ended 1 minute late. So my guess is that I could trim to the true beginning of the movie, and maybe lose the ending credits, to get to a size that would natively fit on a DL DVD. If that much is true, can your mod be configured to do that or will I always be forced to transocde to 720p? What about shows that are already 720p? And have you tested with any HD Lite material, where the shows are 1280x1080i, and the PAR is 3:2 instead of 1:1?

Another question, when you burn a show to DVD, what happens to the show info? Is it also saved on DVD such that when you play the DVD again, you get all the detailed info, possibly the coverart image, etc? I suppose I need to install the Sage MC 16x9 STV to get more familiar with all this.
