can't change CC from off in options.
This is odd. Had to do a replacement/rebuild of the OS drive last week. I've gone through the stuff I could find in the forums for turning on CC; EnableCCinDVD = 1 in the reg, and cc_option_enabled=true in both props files. For some reason the CC option shows up in the onscreen menu, but I can't change it from OFF to anything else. I've learned to live w/ this on the MVP, but it used to work locally. Suggestions would be appreciated.

IIRC, the EnableCCinDVD registry edit is for the 350 only. The 500 just needs 24201+ driver. No regedits or anything needed for the 500 except for the driver. And there is no CC support for the USB2 yet. Regarding EnableCCinDVD support in the USB2 drivers, I have writen to hauppauge a couple times specifically asking about EnableCCinDVD support in the USB2 drivers like the 150/250/350/500 cards do. The first time they ignored me. So, on my second email they finally sent this... Quote:

well, mpg2srt produces several kb of data on current recordings. my problem is in Sage itself. The option to turn on CC shows up in the options popup, but I can't get it to display anything but "Off" when selected.
I was aware, when last I looked, that the USB2 was out in the cold so I have it set as the lowest merit. Now if only Sage would/could support CC on the MVP.

Yup, sounds like it is on the display side.
What decoder are you using, the built-in Sage decoder? or a DVD decoder like nVidia Purevideo? The Sage decoder isn't a DVD capable decoder, and Sage-style CC is basically a DVD feature (EnableCCinDVD). You need a DVD-capable decoder to be able to change the CC button in the options popup. Once you have a DVD decoder, you also need to use VMR9, or if you use Overlay, then disable Overlay Color Keying.

I'm using the NVidia software downloaded from pcalchemy and have it set as default w/ deccheck. I've always used VMR9. This happened after I reinstalled Sage to the replacement drive then copied over it with the folder I'd archived from the old drive. Figured that was the easiest way to preserve all my settings and tweaks. I REALLY don't want to have to reinstall Sage to fix this. The option is there, I just can't figure out why I can't set it to CC1.

you got me stumped.
YOu're getting the CC data captured to the file, mpg2srt shows that, so its not a driver/registry issue. Using a DVD decoder in VMR9 should be all that is needed with the CC option enabled in the .properties files. edit: It sounds like Sage may still be using the Sage decoder. Have you tried to pick the nVidia decoder in Sage, instead of just using Default? Got any other DVD decoders you can try?

Tried setting Sage to specifically use the nvidia decoder instead of default and now I get a rendering error during playback.

Well, at that point, I'd try to reinstall the nvidia decoder and Sage as well.
You should be able to reinstall Sage without too much issue. either just install Sage over itself again, or do an uninstall (the important stuff like wiz.bin and .prop files should stay put) and then install back into the Sage folder. Since Sage will see the wiz.bin and .prop files there, it will keep that info in the new install.

I managed to get the hauppauge s/w decoder installed and it displays CC text; albeit pink text on translucent green background. but that much is working so far. The purevideo decoder from pcalchemy worked before the OS drive went south so I'll look there first. I want to have 3-4hrs between scheduled recordings before I start monkeying w/ Sage itself. Thanks for the input, ke6guj.
edit: reinstalled the nvidia decoder. still can't use it when selected directly. the nvidia post processor will play recordings, but still no CC. guess I'll stick w/ the hauppauge s/w til I can reinstall Sage funny thing is that the nvidia decoder is set to default and with Sage renderer = default I can play anything but w/ no CC. If I explicitly select the nvidia decoder playback fails on all video, even DVD.
