Cannot change from stvmcdsmpeg.ax
I think I'm having an issue with SageTV's 5.0.4 software-installed mpeg decoder (the one that comes with SageTV)
I'm lost. I believe that the v5.0.4 package-installed mpeg decoder is remaining as the DShowSW DVD decoder on my machine, even though I'm using nVidia's Purevideo Platinum setup as the preferred decoder. The SageTV 5.0.4 package appears to include an MPEG decoder in it, and I don't want my machine to use the stvmcdsmpeg.ax as the DVD decoder -- I want to have my system use the nVidia Purevideo Platinum. I've selected nVidia in WMP10 (using "prefer other decoder") and in SageTV 5.0.4 in Audio/Video and DVD for the renderer. Now in SageTV, if I watch windowed, the nVidia icon pops in the toolbar and I can see it decoding if I select properties *and* I'm getting DD5.1 at my reciever. However, I cannot get WMP10 to play anything in 5.1 even though my nVidia Purevideo is selected correctly and even pops up in the tray when playing a DVD in WMP10. nVidia shows I am using S/PDIF out and sending 5.1 output, but the stream is prologic/stereo. I used the command "dvdupgrd /detect" in XP to see what DVD decoder is system preferred (even though deccheck.exe SAYS it's nVidia) and I get: DSHow SW: Name:"stvmcdsmpeg.ax" Company Name:"MainConcept AG" Version: 1.0.0.65 Product Version: 1.0.0.65 CRC32: 0xc383d146 VID:0 W2k Upgrade=no Win9x Upgrade=no LCID=0409 I think this may be the root of my issue, but I'd like some feedback. I tried changing the merit on the system using radlight filter and gspot, but even though it shows that MPEG1 / 2 should use the nVidia as its' highest merit, XP still shows that stvmcdsmpeg.ax is the detected DVD decoder. Thoughts? Last edited by shawncochran; 08-22-2006 at 09:25 AM. |

Reinstall your nVidia decoders. That will make them the default. Last decoder installed ends up being default. Also in WMP go to Tools-DVD-Advanced and see what is set as your audio decoder. I bet it is AC3 filer. Go into its settings and tell it you prefer other decoder.

I've gotta run right now but:
Download Radlight Filter Manager. Un-register that .ax file and AC3 Filter...see if that does anything. (Or you can use Windows commands, but RLFM is pretty easy). P |

The first error is --
FilterManager.exe - Unable to Locate Component This application has failed to start because stvmcmpgdec.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Followed by -- Dllunregisterserver failed in: c:\program files\sage tv\common\stvmcdsmpeg.ax with error code: 0x80004005 |

I am having the same issue...but worse I get absolutely no audio and in WMP it shows that it is using MPEG Audio Decoder...not NVidia...NO MATTER What I do it is not sending audio to my SPIDIF Out...STUPID SAGETV IT THERE DUMP DEFAULT DECODERS!!!
EDIT: Still annoyed with the ac3 filter takeover of mu audio decoder...but I figured out my audio issue...upgrades seem to be more problematic as of late...now I know why I don't change things often. Last edited by jptaz; 08-31-2006 at 08:46 PM. |

Copy your existing SageTV directory somewhere. Uninstall, reboot and install. Should take a grand total of 15-20 minutes. Configure and make sure it works. Then copy back over your wiz.bin. Check and make sure it still works fine. At least they're not suggesting to reinstall the OS.
