Well I have not set up this type of tuner within Sage, but I think you are saying there are two options under the digital tuner: Cable/Sat or OTA. Is that correct?

There really is no clear QAM vs encrypted QAM. If you pick the cable option under the digital tuner, it is going to search the QAM frequencies and pick up all the QAM stations whether the are encrypted or not. This is due to the fact that there is actual broadcasts on the encrypted channels. So the tuner knows there is something there and therefore adds it to the channel list.

Once the tuner goes through the QAM search, you may end up with 60 channels, but only 5 will actually be able to display a picture on it. These are the unencrypted channels. So you generally will have to manually go through the channel list and delete the channels that have nothing but a black screen due to the encryption.

It's a pain to have to set up this way, but it works.

Yeah I'm aware of the delta between QAM.

Yeah I can pick Cable/Sat or OTA.

I pick Cable and then select Time Warner (my service area) basic.

But it doesn't seem to find any channels. . .I just get black box with -1 underneath it.

Interestingly there are like 3 levels of Time Warner from xmltv search

Time Warner
Time Warner Cable Ready TVs
Time Warner Digital cable

I know I don't want the digital cable option as I'm not using an STB.

But I'm still unsure as to what the black preview -1 thing means. . .
I'll try again with both these lineups tonite and post my results. . .

But I'm assuming I should be picking Cable right? Not OTA. . .

Actually you will want the digital cable option if you want to display the QAM channels in the line up. I don't think this will effect the channel search function that you are having problems with, but just an FYI.

You may not subscribe to digital cable, but that is where the QAM channels are found. Usually the digital cable guides include information for both the digital and analog stations so you'll still get the information for your regular cable and the QAM stations. You may want to customize the guide to cut out all the encrypted QAM digital stations, but actually I think that should happen automatically when you delete the encrypted QAM stations from the tuner lineup.

sdsean, please update us if you can get QAM working. I was just looking at the 950Q as well. Would be nice to have QAM via USB.

Thanks.

yeah for sure. . . I just got an email from sage support wanting me to send them log files. . . .

but. . .I don't really want to install the beta again b/c i couldn't get it too work with my standard def signals. . . .

but. . . I'm in the middle of rebuilding my machine right now anyway (just finished the re-install of xp), so perhaps I just had too much clutter. . .

I'll let you all know more hopefully tonite. . .
