Jon,
I am unable to get the UIRT working with a Sage and an RCA DTC100. I have tried reprogramming with no success. I have also tried to write my own .ir file to no avail. I am not sure I created the file in the correct format, although I tried to follow your outline. Do you know of anyone who has created a working .ir file for the DTC100? That would be great. Thanks! OK, my problem is fixed! Thanks to Jon Rhees for helping me get it figured out. What was happening is that I was getting one of the setup screens "flashing" for just a second after a name my new device, and then a message stating "Please release the button you are pressing". Well, this kept making me think that I had inadvertently pressed a button so I would back up with the "left arrow"...which was taking me to the Actisys calibration screen. By simply ignoring that message and continuing on, everything worked fine.

Jon,
Your file works, at least partially. It does confirm that the USBUIRT is working fine. When I change channels or use the guide the channel numbers are being sent; however, the RCA requires an "ok" to enter the number to change the channel or it does not change. The Sage software is not sending the "ok" for some reason, event though the ir code is entered correctly in the .ir file. Shouldn't the Sage software look for that code after three digits are transmitted and send it? BTW, your quick response and file was beyond the call of duty. Thanks! Willie |

Hopefully there is a way to do this since some box's like above require it for Sage to work at all. Worse case this should be able to be fixed when 2.0 comes out.

I believe that Sage *can* send an OK (or ENTER) after the digits have been sent. However, I don't recall what value in the .IR file indicates this. I know that in SageRecorder (not SageTV) a dialog comes up when editing a IR setup which allows you to turn this option on...
Perhaps Jeff can help with this... -Jon |

This is what the first line in the IR file normally looks like for the Morotola boxes:
MotorolaDCT2000 37616 411 3 600 1000 If you wanted it to send Enter after each channel change, you'd change it to: MotorolaDCT2000 37616 411 3 600 1000 Enter The code Enter must also have been taught, and be defined in the IR file (except for the Motorola boxes, I already have the codes in there for Exit/Enter and some others). This is where it gets a little tricky since you can't teach the Enter code directly in SageTV....but with a little bit of thought one can figure out how to teach it new codes (you just rename them in the IR file). Sorry its not perfect yet but at least it will work.

Looking for some “simple” answers
I am new to the whole SAGE/PVR thing so please bear with me. I have ordered my USB-UIRT and just waiting for it to come in. In the mean time I am trying to figure out the best way to do the remote control setup. From what I read in the postings I believe the following will work. I want to control my SAGE and Dish 301 receiver with the USB-UIRT. SAGE 1.4 can support the USB-UIRT directly with some updated files; Dish 301 does work with USB-UIRT. Is this assumption correct? Where do I get the updated files I need, especially the IR file for the Dish 301. I no longer think I need to use Girder (the program is cool, but I just don’t have the time to spend. Any help would be appreciated, it seems the more I read in the forums the more confused I get. Thanks |

I wish there was simple answers to everything GlennPT but I have read the Dish 301 receiver should work from what I have read over at the USB-UIRT forum.
I like to ordered the USB-UIRT but I need find out weather or not the external IR Transmitter signal output on the back of the USB-UIRT device can support quad-eye wired emitters. One other thing being the dish can be config on each box on there very own diff remote address so the other receiver box just ignore the transmitter code. My thing is getting separate emitters due to the way I'm building this which I plan on building a multiple PVR card. Being us Dish users can config each box on there very own diff remote address which make it very eazy for setup multiple tuner setup provid that the applications can support separate IR codes or tvr files or what name it is which SageTV dose. A better 2nd Option would be to do independently up to 4 IR Transmitter output port on there own ID output port addressing like 1 though 4 which should allow for use of one IR code and multiple IR codes be used on each port independently though each wired emitters eye for thoses can't do what the dish receiver box can do, I think this would be a better way to do it but I'm not sure there anything like this with out using multiple-transmitter. Would nice if Fry's could build they very own Remote Control with Receiver/Transmitter. Last edited by SHS; 12-27-2003 at 02:56 PM. |

SHS,
Do you have a link to the quad-eye emitter you're referring to? Thanks, Jon |

SHS,
I've used the dual emitters with good luck. The USB-UIRT actually has a stereo emitter jack so with the right stereo->dual-mono splitter you could hook up two sets of dual emitters. An example of such a splitter is: http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=274%2D375 Jon |

SHS,
I can't even get one setup working and you are thinking of four. You make my brain hurt. SAGE software is cool but it takes way to much of my time, I am thinking of sitting things out until version 2. I emailed about a beta copy but haven't heard back. When I purchased my software last week there was a link to download but it didn't work, they probrably have pulled it. Even with all the hasseles it still is better than TIVO (though my dish PVR is ok) |
