Upgraded from 5.0.4 to 6.0.16 last night. First impressions -

1. Revamped media center is awesome. Interface could get slicker as it evolves.

2. Google video makes the content dynamic. I am scared it will be addictive. It's good that Google does not serve porn.

3. I did hear a beep - just once so far - but it was loud and clear.

4. For the first time I was able to watch wmv and avi files on my mvp (transcoded directly..not converted).

5. Haven't tried file conversion yet. How do i convert a single file ? The option is ony available for a folder.

Great job overall. Well worth the upgrade cost.

It was, even in v2 -- if you had selected slideshow (up/down keys) instead of a single image.
It has also been like that in v6 for a while

And please remove the button graphics on the top right corner or have a setting to hide it for that that want it hidden.

you know where it says 'Press Enter for menu' (you can also click), that menu has a 'Hide Tip' checkbox

That is absolutely funny. Thanks I needed that this morning. I will make sure I set the sleep timer on mine, because, for any of you who have been scared while you are sleeping, that would just freak me out way to much. Was it really that loud?

A few days? You're aware this was released late on the 6th?

I'm still getting "The Greatest Hits" wrong album art bug on some album even though I properly tagged all my MP3 files.

The files have to have different Album Artists to be seen as different albums. If you've already changed that, then reimport your music, don't just rescan.

You could do this during slideshows previously, and it was added to the v6 beta several versions back. As for why now, instead of earlier... I don't understand the question. Not every possible option was implemented at the beginning, with a series of later decisions about which ones to release as time goes by. Some new options simply get added as development continues.

Edit: BTW - the Next/Prev arrow icons in the tip area got displayed in reversed somehow. I already noticed that & fixed it last night.

Did you look at the menu that appears when you press enter like it says? (You can also click with the mouse.) There is an option to "Hide Tip".

In the advanced mode of the pop-up video options dialog, there is a "Convert" button on the bottom rigth-hand side. (Or, at least there should be...)

i checked again...the convert button does not show up for a single file...only for a folder.

Are the files you're trying to convert still recording? I noticed in 6.0.15 that the convert button was only available when shows were finished recording.

another issue..

i can no longer prevent video file types from showing up in the library.
if i delete extensions (wmv,asf,avi etc) from the seeker/video_library_import_filename_extensions property (after stopping the service of course), the extensions get re-added to the properties file the next time i use SageTV.

I am not trying to convert a recording. I am trying to convert an avi or wmv file (in imported videos) to mpg.

The STV first checks to see if a video can be converted before offering the option to convert, so my guess is that those videos are in formats that cannot be converted.

I have not messed around with this yet, so I apologize for this being asked prematurely, but I suspect the answer is no, so...

With smooth DVD FF/RW for the MVP now, is it possible to setup the MVP remote control commands to be "skip" (i.e. 30 second and 2 minute time skips) if watching a recorded show (easier to get past commercials), but smooth FF/RW if watching a DVD or imported video?

makes sense. The option is showing up for some files (mpgs) but not for others.

Not easily. You can reassign the buttons to be different commands in Detailed Setup -> Commands, but each button will still perform a single command. You would have to assign different commands to different buttons or edit the STV to have it react to certain commands differently depending on whether playback is a DVD or not.

your problem has been fixed in 6.0.16, it's a new bug that doens't bother your OnAir tuners.

Thanks Qian,

After the upgrade I was receiving an error saying something like "unable to access capture device" on the second tuner (maybe first actually) of my NovaT 500 MCE. I was slack and didn't copy the exact error . The replacement DShowCapture.dll fixed the problem. I saw this same problem with 6.14 but didn't get around to reporting it before 6.15 was released.

Here's my history with this symptom so far;

6.13 no problem with 2nd tuner
6.14 error accessing 2nd tuner
6.15 no problem with 2nd tuner
6.16 error accessing 2nd tuner

Should I swap back to the previous version of the .dll, record the details of the error and report it as a bug against 6.16, or is this now a known quantity that will not come back again? I'd hate to get to a full release and find that I cannot use my second tuner.
