Major Annoyance

Greetings,

One problem that has reared its ugly head is as follows.

I am using Sage 6.019
DirecTV Tuner with channel changing via serial.

Every time there is a quide event, could be 30 minutes or 1hr depending on how long a show is, at the beggining of the new show the video freezes and then the channel changes.

So say I am watching channel 252, and at 8:30 another show comes on that channel. at 8:29:30 the video will freeze, you will see the STB registering a channel change even if it is staying on that channel. After 10 seconds the video takes back off from where it left off.

Keep in mind, it is NOT changing to another channel, it for whatever reason is making sure it is still on that channel and for the life of me I cant figure out why?

HELP!

In Detailed Setup -> Customize, there is an option for "Always tune channel", which covers retuning even for the same channel.

Just remember that even when a channel change event isn't used, there will be a brief switch between one recording and the next when the show changes.

No, you can access it through the UI and don't need to re-start.

Well then, that did not correct the problem I am having then.

It still pauses between the half/hour mark when a different program comes on the same channel. I do not see it changing the channel now but there is still that pause in the video that was not there with version 5.

Should I report this as a bug?

Let me know.

No, as I said above:

i.e.: it has to switch recording & playback from one show's recorded file to the next

We are talking a 20-30 pause here, is that normal?

For the life of me I never remember experiencing this with version 5.0.

Not that I doubt you I am just wondering why I did not experience this with 5.

It's not a big deal, but the wife is asking so

I guess I didn't notice that you said the time increased... there will always be a delay while playback transfers from one recording to the next, but I'm not sure what might have happened to make the length of that delay increase. Did you change any properties settings or restart with a fresh properties file when you upgraded? Was anything else in your SageTV setup changed? If you did not change anything, then you could always ask support if they know what might increase the delay.

There are a few properties that could affect it, but I'll leave the discussion of that to someone else since I don't use those properties... and I never watch live TV.

I had the same problem with an END of show pause while watching Live TV. Although it has to do with a network encoder it *May* help your problem.

Close down Sage and and or Sage Service. Edit the Properties files for theses settings and try again.

seeker/fast_mux_switch=false

I'm trying to resolve a new pause I'm seeing since ver 6 aswell... for me in version 5 the nvidia decoder always stayed active during livetv channel changing. But in ver 6 it unloads and reloads the nvidia decoder every time.

I tried changing those properties settings to false, but that made the problem even worse for me.

Same here. Running v6 and started having the "screen freeze" problem right after installing Directv serial control. The control works but the screen freezes at the end of each show and occasionally when I'm changing channels. My fix is to press the "stop" button on the remote twice, then press OK to select the channel again. I have tried switching the "always tune channel" and even so far as removing SageTV from PC, deleting SageTV folder, and reinstalling everything. I have not tried the switching the recommended properties above to "false". I've tried running both in SageTV and SageMC mode but still same "screen freeze" problem occurs.

Seems like we have a problem here. Anyone else find this and a fix for it? It is becoming quite aggrivating.

Bump.

No replies to this one yet and I'm still having the freeze problem occurring randomly when changing channels.

Could it be the Patersontech serial to USB device settings?

It may just be something as simple as defragging or there could be an error on one of your harddrives or not it could go eirther way really

I think the below Sage Properties change recommended in this and other posts fixed it (or at least reduced the annoyance to a 5-15 sec occasional freeze).

seeker/fast_mux_switch=false

Made the change a few days ago and still monitoring. The defrag recommendation is a good one. I, at one time, had this task scheduled in Microsoft Scheduler. I'll have to look into this one again.
