I am seriously considering going back to Sagev5....for the last week or so, Sage has been building up the amount of CPU usage...it works fine for a day or so after a restart....but the CPU usage increases to almost 60 - 70% (on a XP2100, 512mb ram system)- I wonder if it is some kind of memory leak going on....

and yes- the dreaded spinning sage icon is driving me nuts......
I use an MVP client to watch..
I do not have sage service running, nor do I watch TV on the server except for maybe an hour a day at best....most viewing is on the client.

The CPU usage just beats me....let me not even start getting into the DirectTV dll that was discussed a few posts earlier...I just reverted to a dll a year or so old- and it works great. The new dll would just not change channels after a few hours....
I've not seen any of these problems, but then again I do run Sage on a dedicated server, which isn't used for any viewing at all. It's been running Sage 6.0.19 since the day it was released, and only had to be rebooted 2x, once when the power whet out, and once when a badly encoded file seem to hang the system (having issues with my firewire encoder, my cableco seems to be making it output bad TS files, pretty much unusable now ). The bad TS files have also crashed my PC clients, but other than that, it's been rock-solid stable. One thing I DID do was upgrade the Java to 6.0, keeps my memory usage on SageService at around 260m or so, and the CPU usage is usually less than 10% (unless transcoding to my MVP, that throws the usage way up). Now my server is a fairly beefly one (dual Xeon 2.8, 2g memory, etc), but it's been working very well since the 6.0.19 release...

I agree with you that all the additional features mean naught- if you have to deal with these kinds of issues on a "PVR media server"....
HD content on a MVP is just plain EVIL. Remember it's having to transcode those HD files down to mpeg format that the MVP can decode, so that would explain the CPU usage. Now if I remember right, there will be some sort of 'fix' in place with 6.1 for HD on a MVP, but I'm really looking forward to retiring my MVP's and sticking new HD extenders in their place .

Sorry for the confusion- I never watch HD on the MVP...I watch it on my second client on a PC....but stopped that now as well until I can figure out the CPU usage......

my problems are with just SD video....and the server taking up 70%+ of CPU even when not watching anything on it....

Thanks for the inputs....
do you think its a Java issue? I am using the latest release...I think from a couple of weeks back...

Is it the v6 release that came out a bit ago, or the latest update from v5? If it's 5 it may still have the memory leak in it, which was fixed in the 6 series (possibly the latest 5, but not sure). It sure helped with my sluggish UI, it's snappy fast now, on the PC's and much faster on the MVP as well.

its the latest v6- official release....
I was using the v6 beta for a while and liked it in spite of it being a little sluggish....no video freeze ups etc ever....sluggishness was only in UI or UI related events, which I could live with...

but I updated to latest official v6 release about 2 weeks back when I also moved to Direct TV.....

I've since then been plagued by this high CPU usage problem as well as direct tv box control issues . I have put in the old DirectTV control dll and use the SageMC stv- the older dll fixed the control issues- but i still don't know the source of the high cpu usage.
