Funny Sage Client Operation

I am able to start the sage client. the controls work fine. I can play a recorded video with no problems. But when I start to watch live tv ... i get no audio and the video show a frame or two ... no ethernet traffic to speak of (compared to playing a recorded show). In what area do I start to look for problems??

What tuner and recording quality are you using? Perhaps try a different recording quality setting.

Thank you for your reply. The server system is an XP system and has a pair of dual PVR-500 tuners and Sage 2.2 (working fine for quite a while). Recording on the server is set at DVD Extra Long Play. The client is a Media Center System with a PVR-150 and Sage Client 2.1. Only MCE software and the Sage Client software are on the client.

In detailed setup the first two parameters are already set to default.

Does anyone understand Sage Client enough to provide a pointer?? How can recorded shows run without a hitch and a live tuner fail miserably. Don't they have the same content in the data stream??

If not, whats the difference. That has got to be associated with the problem.

That bothers me a bit, the first thing I'd try is making them the same version. Versions are not guaranteed to work together.

Thanks for the idea Stanger89. It is a typo, both are 2.1 ...
any other ideas? I am just amazed that some document doesn't describe the flow of all this ... I understand you can't specify every possible hardware config, but where is the doc that describes the flow and philosphy!

For grins and giggles I would disble the Media Center services on your client. You're running an older version 2.1 client and I'm not sure how that affects it because you also have a PVR150 in there. I know Sage runs fine as a client with MCE but I never had the a tuner card in the client to see how that may affect it. It won't hurt to turn off the MCE services and then fire up the Sage client to see if it works any better. Or also take the tuner card out to see if that does anything.

Thanks for the idea. The Sage Client software is on an MCE machine with the PVR. No Sage Server on the machine with the Sage Client.

I should also note I have another Client working without problem (on a different hardware configuration machine).

The network between the working pair is 1Gbit/sec. The network between the non-working pair includes a router between subnets, but is a private net not public. Proven bandwidth > 10 Mbit/sec. And, between the non-working pair recorded video playback is solid, only live tv is broken.

Live TV doesn't even show network traffic ... is the connection TCP or UDP?

That may be the issue. The non-working client may need to be on the same subnet to work properly. Or you may need to define a static route for it. Double check the manual but I believe both TCP and UDP are used depending upon the port.

Thanks, I will try some of these things. But do you have any idea what is different between Live TV and recorded TV. Recorded works great!

I had a problem with a security camera not showing video on the client, but a manual record of the show would work fine. After numerous emails to tech support someone on the forums here suggested I check the server clock.
Seems the client clock was 30 seconds behind the server clock so the security cam video never showed while I was watching LiveTV on the client. LiveTV on the server worked fine and showed the live video.

I reset the client clock to be 30 seconds ahead the server's time and problem solved.

This was around six months ago when both server and client were using Sage 2.2

solution

OK, I got it. Apparently showing video that is recorded is different than live tv. When the video is recorded it's format is also changed. Live TV needs a video decoder (specifications unknown).

For server and client version 2.1, and the server runs XP, and the client runs XP media center ... then

just load WINDVD on the client and forget it. SageTV will start working.
