Can't use VMR9 on new video card install

I have been using the Hauppauge 350 hardware tv out but recently upgraded to a Nvidia 7600GT. I am using the PureVideo decoder. I tried to enable VMR9 and 3D acceleration in sage but it will not let me enable acceleration so I can't use VMR9. I am getting an error according to the log file below.

Wed 3/14 12:41:40.751 Initializing DirectX9
Wed 3/14 12:41:40.752 Not using DirectX9 because there's not enough video memory (0)
Wed 3/14 12:41:40.752 MetaImage clearNativeCache nativeImageCacheSize=0
Wed 3/14 12:41:40.753 Cleaning up DirectX9
Wed 3/14 12:41:40.753 Doing full DX9 cleanup.
Wed 3/14 12:41:40.753 Done cleaning up DirectX9
Wed 3/14 12:41:40.753 Sage had a failure loading the accelerated renderer, defaulting to software rendering.
Wed 3/14 12:41:40.767 MetaImage clearNativeCache nativeImageCacheSize=0
Wed 3/14 12:41:40.768 Cleaning up DirectX9
Wed 3/14 12:41:40.768 Doing full DX9 cleanup.
Wed 3/14 12:41:40.768 Done cleaning up DirectX9

Is this the problem or could it be something else? Any ideas or suggestions?

Looks to me like it might be a driver issue. Make sure you're using up-to-date drivers from the Nvidia website, not whatever came with your card or from Windows Update.

Is the card working fine otherwise?

I'm not entirely sure this would affect it, but are the TV-out options for the 350 disabled in Detailed Setup -> Multimedia?

Thanks for the replies. I am using forceware 93.71 which came with the card. Yes, the card works fine otherwise. I have disabled tv out for the 350 and ui on tv out for the 350. I also have Hardware decoding only disabled. I am using direct X 9.0b. Should I update to diirect X 9.0c? Also using java 1.4.2_03 with tzupdater for DST.

I would say, yes, update to DX 9.0c, since that's most likely what the Nvidia folks are testing against.

Your Java is pretty old as well. I and many others use 1.6, and Sage itself ships with 1.4.2_11 (or is it _12?). So you should probably look at updating that too, so you're in sync with the Sage devs.

VMR9 is currently borked in the latest version of SageTV. No word yet if there is a fix in the works. Use overlay for now to avoid headaches.

Ok well it works for some, but many are having trouble obtaining smooth playback.

What I mean is absolutely smooth playback, no microstutters or anything of the sort. Only overlay can achieve this in my experimentation.

I've had the same experience, using a 7600GT, 720p works perfect, 1080i stutters, and I've tried all the tips and tricks posted here, it simply doesn't work right with VMR9 and 1080i. Works fine if I use something other than Sage...

Thanks for all the help.

I installed DirectX 9.0c and then I was able to initiate VMR9 with acceleration. It played back smoothly to my SD TV with transparent menus and effects. I then upgraded java to 1.6 and it seems to be doing OK so far.
