Thanks!

Yes, there is a required trick again this year. Since ESPN.com can't seem to call the All-Star teams by the same name from year to year, I've had to create a new build. To monitor Tuesday's game you will need to upgrade to snapshot 486 and you will need to create an override for the game:

Title: MLB Baseball
Subtitle: AL All-Stars at NL All-Stars

Snapshot 486 is available on Google Code now for download.

Just a quick update for the users of SRE. NFL monitoring is broken in all versions prior to 2.1.4.498. The 498 snapshot does monitor NFL games properly, but was removed from Google Code download area because it contains some other debug code and requires a little cleanup before it's fully ready for the NFL season. This is just a note to let everyone know that I'm on it and the official 2.1.4 release of SRE will be made in plenty of time for NFL kickoff weekend.

Is there any chance of being able to get CFL games monitored?

Yes, if you're willing to do a little homework. Does the tsn.ca web site show the scores in (near) real time? By near real time I mean, are the scores updated and current within say 3-5 minutes while the game is in progress? If you can figure that out and tell me "yes" then I'll create the monitor. I took a quick look at the tsn.ca web page and parsing the game data from those pages is rather straightforward so I just need to know if the scoreboard is updated in near real time. I don't watch CFL so I won't do the extra bit of homework, but if you do then I'll add the monitor. If the tsn.ca scoreboard isn't real time then check the sportsnet site or the CFL site. I need a near real time scoreboard that can be easily parsed (I've confirmed that the tsn.ca scoreboard meets the "easily parsed" criteria).

Great, I'll try and check tonight and see how close to real time it is.

It's undocumented at the moment but the separate ssl builds have been discontinued (too much confusion for too many users). Instead to enable ssl only for a plugin you open the context file and uncomment the line containing "dataConstraint".

I'll be writing a wiki doc with more details shortly.

Sorry, more questions.

1. In which file do I find the "dataConstraint" entry? I looked in the "sre.context.xml" file and did not find it there.

2. What ID and password is getting sent, and where is it getting sent, that makes it a concern that using SSL is recommended? Other than the the id and password to get to the SRE admin site running on jetty. I'm confused!

BTW - This plugin is freakin' Brilliant!

Yeah, it's in that file. If you're not running a recent snapshot build then you won't see it in there. You'll need to upgrade shortly for NFL monitoring, but in the mean time have a look at this file to see where you can add the line to your current context file if you want to force ssl only.

It's just the jetty id/pwd on initial login. It all comes down to your thoughts on security. If you don't care that someone may sniff your jetty id/pwd then I wouldn't worry about it. But if you're wondering what my thoughts are on "best practises" then I recommend enabling SSL only on any app that accepts an id/pwd.

Once again, I appologize, but I don't see any SRE snapshot builds out there.....

I will definitely be relying on SRE for the NFL, so I will be anxiously awaiting the next update.

You will be posting in this thread when the next build is ready?

Thanks

Snapshots were removed and explained here.

A post with the new version will be made here, but then moved to the Customization Announcement section.

First snapshot with NFL support fixed is available for general testing. Download snapshot 508 from the Google Code project site and upgrade. Unless there are reports from users, I expect this snapshot to eventually be labelled the official 2.1.4 build for SRE sometime in the next week or two.

A quick summary of what's all been fixed since last official release:
  • NASCAR monitor removed (data source became unreliable)
  • Wait two hours before removing manual record flag when needed (address possible race condition)
  • Add support for MLB All-Star game monitoring
  • Separate SSL builds removed (see install guide for details on how to enable SSL only access if so desired)
  • Fix NFL monitor
  • Set HTTP User agent (plugin properly identifies itself when connecting to remote sites for event data)
  • Build plugin in JRE 1.5 mode (reduce Java requirement; now only Java 1.5 required to run plugin)

Let me know if you find any problems.

Ok, I really apologize if this is already in the thread, but I scanned several pages and have not found an answer:

My first successfuly extended MLB game happened last night. It was so cool to watch the extended section of the recording grow as the game went long. Nice! However....for some reason the recording was not remembering where I left off if I stopped watching. I.E., I was watching on an extender in the living room, stopped playback half way through the recording, and then went to the bedroom to watch the rest, but when I started playback in the bedroom, it started from the beginning. I tested a couple times, and sure enough my last viewed point is not being saved.

Is this a known issue when a recording is being dynamically extended, or maybe just a onetime glitch I was having with this particular recording?

What you describe happens when the program id is a generic one (when using the Sage EPG data it means a show with a program id starting with 'SH'). In that case, Sage does not remember what you've watched. Typically baseball games start with 'SP' so it should remember, if it's not then I'd upgrade to the latest version of Sage and open a bug report if you continue to see this behaviour.

I've noticed that this happens once you've watched beyond the original ending of the show. At that point, Sage thinks you have "watched" the show and thus starts from the beginning the next time. Would be worth logging a defect I think... (although I usually just use the "Time Scroll" feature to jump directly back to the end of the show to continue watching).

Now available at the project site is snapshot 515, which contains the fix for the NCAA football monitor. Turns out ESPN has decided to make a change to all the fall sports scoreboards and so NCAA football is broken in all versions prior to 515. With this fix, I believe SRE is updated and good to go until college hoops starts.

I'll make sure the NCAA football monitor survives the weekend then I'll make an official 2.1.4 release prior to the NFL kickoff next Thursday.

ESPN seems to be playing around with their scoreboards this weekend. Snapshot 517 has the latest fix for the NCAA monitor. Hopefully they're close to being done messing around with things for the season.

As a heads up, Snapshot 517 didn't seem to work for me today (on at least two games, anyway). Sorry for the headache! Keep up the good work.

Code:
2009-09-05 14:59:02 Found 2 active recordings.
2009-09-05 14:59:02 Unable to find status for Navy at Ohio State
2009-09-05 14:59:02 College Football --> Invalid monitor; parser may be obsolete
2009-09-05 14:59:02 Unable to find status for Kentucky vs Miami (Ohio)
2009-09-05 14:59:02 College Football --> Invalid monitor; parser may be obsolete
EDIT: On the ESPN web site: "Ohio State" is "Ohio St" and "Miami (Ohio)" is "Miami (OH)". This may explain the misses (but it seems like should have just worked).
