I'm not saying I know more about how IR works than the Sage devs. In fact I specifically said I'm not interested in trying to alter the way IR makes its choices. What I'm proposing is to provide the user with rule-based options for vetoing some of those choices after they've been made but before they're recorded. This is possible because the Sage API makes available to the plugin a list of what IR would have recorded if it were enabled. I don't have to care how that list was arrived at in order to make use of it in an "enhanced IR" UI.

My claim about being in a better position is not that third-party devs are smarter or more knowledgeable than the Sage devs, but that they're more nimble, i.e. better able to quickly test and reject a variety of rule schemes and UI ideas in order to find the ones that work, regardless of where the underlying data comes from.

I think Greg is on the right track.

Look at the suggestions, apply a filter, then schedule the recordings. Use the IR logic to make the rough cut and then fine tune them with the add on. Brilliant.

Would it be a possible gotcha be conflict resolution? Since these would appear as manual recordings, they would have the ability to conflict. If so, there may be a way to have it look at conflicts and remove any it scheduled that conflict with ones it didn't.

I wish I was more of the programmer type. This is a grand idea!
