If it's a dedicated server it's probably not absolutely necessary. Keep the teenagers off and minimize your internet activities on it. Run sagetv on a account with minimal privileges if possible. Most basic antivirus programs instill a false sense of security. The bloatware security suites are prone to meltdown. I don't run AV on my Dedicated SageTV Server. I just wait patiently for somebody's code to take it down. Will it be Microsoft? Will it be a hacker? Will it be hardware failure? I guarentee you it won't be a Symantec undead update.
