PureVideo Question
I just upgraded to v6.3.5 (I think that's the latest) and am having problems tweaking the settings for nVidia PureVideo.
The last time I wanted to adjust PureVideo I think I did this (it was a while ago): 1) Play a video within Sage in windowed mode 2) Right click on the PureVideo task tray icon 3) Adjust settings (mainly, I want to switch PureVideo to "automatic" from "smart"; there's a known bug in smart that tends to cause stutters) Unfortunately, I can't do that because the task tray icon doesn't exist. I've uninstalled and re-installed PureVideo a few times, without success. I've tried playing around with having Sage use its default codec, rather than explicitly choose the nVidia one, again no joy. I've also used radlight to bump the nVidia Video Decoder up to "preferred" from "normal". No joy. Has anyone had success bringing up the PureVideo configuration app under the latest version of Saget? |

Use DecCheck (or whatever) to set PureVideo as the preferred decoder, set Sage to use the default decoder, and play a video. The tray icon should appear then.
This is a known bug in PureVideo.

I've run deccheck. nVidia is installed and the default/preferred decoder.
There is no purevideo decoder task tray icon after setting Sage to use the default decoder and running a video. FWIW, I also just noticed that I can't bring up the nVidia control panel applet for my nVidia graphics card. If I click on it, nothing happens. |

In that case I would try reinstalling both the Nvidia drivers and PureVideo.

6.3.5 has a bug that causes the SageTV decoder to override all other codecs on the system. If you play an MPEG2 file in Windows Media Player, you will see that the SageTV decoder has taken over.
You can use a DirectShow filter manager to disable the SageTV decoder or you can unregister the SageTV decoder. The latest beta should correct the problem as well.

Diego,
I had the same issue and here's how I resolved it: First, I downloaded Directshow Filter Manager 0.5 from http://www.softella.com/dsfm/index.en.htm Run Directshow Filter Manager and then sort by Merit. Scroll down and you'll see the all of the decoders running as "Preferred" as designated in Purple. Chances are, you'll see your NVIDIA Video Decoder as less preferred than other decoders. Doubleclick on the NVIDIA Video Decoder line. There's a slider scale in the upper right hand of the window that appears. Slide the slider up so that it's merit is higher than the other preferred decoders. Click the "Set New Merit" button and then exit DSFM. Start up SageTV. Go into Detailed Settings - Video/Audio and then change your MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter to Default. Do the same for your DVD Video Decoder Filter if you want. Restart your computer and SageTV and you should see the NVIDIA Purevideo icon appear in your tray during MPEG2 play. Hope this helps. Last edited by Optimator; 03-09-2008 at 06:23 PM. |

I hope that disabling the SageTV decoder won't break Sage? |

My MPEG2 Video decoder filter has NVIDEO and also NVIDEO Post Processor listed as selections. I have been running a long time with NVIDEO selected. I have also boosted the merit using the DSFFilter program. I have no idea if the NVIDEO decoder is being used or not.

I'm running the latest sage 6.3.10 (think), a 7950GT and PureVideo stutters. If I do a fast-forward 10-second skip, I lose screen, then it locks up. I need to do 3 skip-fowards or 3 skip-backwards in a row in order for the video to recover. I do like the PureVideo decoder quality, better than the default or CSS version but I could never get it to run right and it would occasionally stutter and go into a "slow mode" visual display.
Switched over to PowerDVD, no issues. |
