Which tuner are you using?

I have a single tuner - Leadtek Winfast DTV-1000t - in my Sage server, and I can received all the local digital channels OK.
Lately I have been getting frequent application errors (see this discussion), which sometimes bring down the whole machine (BSOD). When the server is not crashing, I also get some bad recording - details here.

I was just wondering what DVB-T tuner are people using in Australia? Are you experiencing similar problems? Or should I change to a different tuner, which will operate better than my current one?

Hi,
I use two of these, giving me 4 tuners. My sage box has been in Brisbane and now Melbourne.
They dont skip a beat, and i dont get any issues.

Is it live tv or recorded tv that gives you problems ?

I use two of the Nova T-500 http://www.newmagic.com.au/NM_Pages/...T_500_MCE.html

I did have trouble with my previous card but I traced it back to the splitter on the aerial.
So my advice is to check your aerial connections and make sure they are up to scratch, that can be the cause of similar problems to what you are experiencing.

Recorded TV.

In my situations, about 98% of time Sage is working OK. Occasionally and randomly it gives me those problems. Would you still consider this a potential cable/connection problem?

Before the current beta cycle (not sure how far back), the recorded stream usually has time code error in it, which causes skipping forward/backward to wrong location of the file.

That is almost identical to the problem I was having.
Sage would work fine most of the time but then I would experience recordings with no timeline or audio and would have to run them through VideoRedo.

I'm not saying it is your problem but I would suspect the aerial connection, now I know what fixed my recordings.

It's something you can check out and eliminate anyway.

So is that confirmed?? the nova-t-500 MCE works fine under SageTV? I thought these cards were for MCE only?

I need one with high sensitivity, as I am in a fringe area. Hauppage have always been good with analogue, I imagine they are up with the best in digital also?

Cheers
Jamie

ozfiles, I am assuming that the card only works in vista or xpmce? I'm using a vanilla xp install. Will I have to start over again with a vista install?

That's all I am using, xp pro actually, so you should be fine.
The drivers are the same for xp and vista and you can get the latest drivers from here.

Thanks ozfiles.

Are you happy with the picture you get? I mean is it as smooth and clear as the onboard tuner in the TV?

I find mine looks "dry" for want of a better term. And scrolling text has a slight stutter. Not quite silky smooth. I'm probably opening up a whole different can of worms here though....

I'm very happy with the picture I get, very smooth and clear but I didn't expect anything less from Hauppage.
I do use the scrolling text as a benchmark and for my setup, it is as close to the tv's onboard tuner as you can get.
